EXLAR Our Company At Exlar, we are very proud of our innovation and develop-ment of quality products. With our unique product offering, we have pushed the limits of conventional motion control to provide more speed and more force with less space and less maintenance. Our core competency is our patented rollerscrew technology which differentiates us from every other actuator supplier. Now, we have expanded that core compe- tency to include leading-edge technology for rotary motors and gearmotors. This product breadth, combined with solid engineering and product quality testing have allowed us...

EXLAR Linear Motion Technology Roller Screw Basics familiar to everyone using this catalog, allow us to present a general overview. A roller screw is a mechanism for converting rotary torque into linear motion, in a similar man- ner to acme screws or ball screws. But, unlikethose devices, rollerscrews can carry heavy loadsfor thousands of hours in the most arduous conditions. This makes roller screws the ideal choice for demanding, continu- ous-duty applications. The difference is in the roller screws design for transmitting forces. Multiple threaded helical rollers are assembled in a...

GSX Series actuators have strong advantages whenever out- side contami- nants are an issue. In most rotary-to- linear devices, critical mechanisms are exposed to the environment. Thus, they must be frequently inspected, cleaned and lubricated. In contrast, the converting componentsin all Exlar GSX units are mounted within the sealed motor housing. With a simple bushing and seal arrangement on the smooth extending rod, abrasive particles or other contaminants are prevented from reaching the actuators critical mechanisms. This assures trouble-free operation even in the most harsh...

Repeatable force, reliable posi-tioning accuracy, and flexible con-trol make GSX actuators aperfect fit for assem-blypresses ortest stands. Because theycycle quickly andcan be synchronized to line speeds,Exlar actuators produce dramaticimprovements in web control applica-tions. In clean roomapplications like thosecommon to semiconductormanufacturing, the compactdesign of our GSX Series savescritical space. Repeatable force control plus positioningaccuracy extends the life of costly toolswhen Exlar linear actuators are used inprecision clamping applications. >

As shown in the schematic to the left, a check valveor other method of pressure regulation should beused to maintain an internal actuator oil pressure of5 psi.Filtering of 25 microns or better should be used.Simple radiators or heat exchangers can be used to maintain oil temperature.Locate oil systemas close to actuator as possible. Use as large as possible oil line to minimize any possibility of flow restriction. 5 psi Check Valve > Flow Direction 1/2 psiCheck Valve Oil Reservoir Oil Pump ҵ or better Radiator/ Heat ExchangerOil Filter25 >

Oil Cooling and Lubrication > for cooling. In applications wherethe RMS current exceeds I 1 .When such oil lubrication is required, you can determine oil flow rates and case temperatures from this information: Oil lubrication will extend the life ofthe actuator and improve its effi- ciency. More importantly, oil is required in high power applications G (seeelectrical specs on pages 13-17), oil lubrication is required in order to maintain the case temperaturebelow its maximum of 85C Actuator Load Constants: K > C x GalHour L = ( )K > L GSX Series L GSX20 = 40K > 2 Where:I > L GSX30 = 70K >...

EB =Electric Brake PF =Preloaded Follower This option provides an internal holding brake for the GSX20, 30, 40 & 60 actuators. The brake is spring activated andelectrically released. This option offers a true zero backlash follower for the GSX Series actuator. The dynamic load rating of zero backlash, preloaded screws is 63% of the dynamic load rating of the standard non-preloaded screws. The calculated travel life of a preloaded screw will be 25% of the calculated travel life of the same size and lead of a non-preloaded screw for the same application. Preloaded follower is not available...
