RESTful HTTP WebRTC Testing

RESTful HTTP WebRTC Testing

Product catalog summary
Key Features
  • Supports 1.28 million WebRTC endpoints, TLS/DTLS sessions, and SRTP/SRTCP streams.
  • Includes HTTP and HTTPS support, SRTP/SRTCP multiplexing tests, and real-time QoS for all streams.
  • Compatible with OPUS and VP8 WebRTC codecs, and supports STUN, TURN, and ICE NAT server tests.
  • Offers both ICE-Lite and ICE-Full support, PCRF emulation, and IMS/VoLTE and VoIP core network emulation.
  • Facilitates testing of VoIP, VoLTE, and WebRTC services with a high-performance load testing solution.
Overview

WebRTC technology enables real-time communication via browsers, allowing service providers to extend IMS services to web users. The WebRTC gateway facilitates interworking between IMS and web users by translating signaling and transcoding media.

WebRTC Gateway

Two variations of WebRTC gateway implementation are described: one with a session border controller (SBC) supporting WebRTC signaling, media, and NAT functions, and another with separate devices for signaling and NAT functions.

RESTful HTTP WebRTC Testing

The lack of a standard web signaling protocol in WebRTC specifications poses interoperability challenges. The Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) addresses this with a standardized RESTful HTTP network API for signaling video, voice, and data sessions.

HTTPFLEX Application

The httpFlex application emulates RESTful HTTP WebRTC endpoints, allowing for simulation of real-world calls and testing throughout various lifecycle phases. It operates on the QualityAssurer QA-805 test platform.

Test Configuration

The QualityAssurer QA-805 platform supports comprehensive testing of WebRTC gateways and networks. Two configurations are highlighted: SBC testing with various EXFO applications and end-to-end IMS network testing with mixed endpoints.

Key Use Cases
  • Simulates millions of WebRTC endpoints for gateway testing.
  • Tests gateway scalability and performance under load.
  • Verifies the impact of resource-intensive ICE procedures.
  • Benchmarks concurrent DTLS-SRTP sessions and QoS delivery.
  • Performs high-availability tests under various conditions.
Specifications
  • Platform: QA-805 with various modules and interfaces.
  • Protocols: RESTful HTTP, ICE, STUN, TURN, DTLS-SRTP, etc.
  • Codecs: OPUS, G.711, VP8, and H.264.
  • Capacity: 1.28 million endpoints and DTLS-SRTP sessions.
  • Quality measurements include voice and video metrics.

RESTful HTTP WebRTC Testing OVERVIEW Web real-time communications (WebRTC) technology enables real-time communication via browsers. Service providers have deployed WebRTC and are doing trials with the technology to extend their IMS services such as voice over IP (VoIP), voice over LTE (VoLTE), video over LTE (ViLTE) and rich communication services (RCS) to Internet (web) users, hence enabling real-time communication between IMS and web users such as voice, video and chat. The interworking between IMS and web users is made possible by the WebRTC gateway, which translates signaling and transcodes...

RESTful HTTP WebRTC Testing-3

RESTful HTTP WebRTC Testing RESTFUL HTTP WebRTC specifications do not define standard web signaling protocol, leaving web application architects and developers to decide. The signaling protocol is a requirement to transmit and exchange user device capabilities such as codec and ICE credentials from one endpoint to another in order to set up the endpoint for a communication session. Despite the flexibility and freedom provided to the application designers to choose the signaling protocol, having no standard signaling protocol introduces challenges in delivering interoperable WebRTC services. To...
