Product Overview:
The IRt/c.4AXLF is an infrared thermocouple sensor that is non-contact, self-powered, and intrinsically safe. It offers a repeatability of 0.02°F (0.01°C) and interchangeability of ±1%. The resolution is approximately 0.0001°C. It is designed for both high emissivity (non-metal) and low emissivity (metal) surfaces, with a sensing range of 900 to 3500°F (480 to 1930°C) for non-metals and 1700 to 3500°F (930 to 1930°C) for metals. The minimum spot size is 0.19” (4.8 mm) at 8” (200 mm) from the sensor, with a field-of-view of approximately 5°.
Technical Specifications:
The sensor has a spectral response of 2 to 20 μ for non-metals and 0.1 to 5 μ for metals. It features an output impedance of approximately 10 Kohms and comes with a twisted shielded pair cable of base thermocouple material, 3 ft (0.9 m) in length, Teflon sheathed, rated to 392°F (200°C) for continuous service. The dimensions are 8.375” x 1.375” Dia. (213 x 35 mm) and it weighs 20 oz (570 g) with the cable. The housing is stainless steel, hermetically sealed, exceeding NEMA 4,4x; IP65,67 standards, and is intrinsically safe.
Installation and Calibration:
For models with an 'A' in the designation, connect the air purge first if the process is already at operating temperature, ensuring a minimum of 5 psig (30 kPa) air pressure. Install and align the IRt/c to view the target, bringing it to operating temperature if necessary. Connect leads to the readout device. If the target temperature is unknown, measure it with a reference, adjust the calibration screw to the desired reading, and replace the setscrew cover. Use ZERO or OFFSET adjustments on readout devices for final process adjustments. The calibration screw functions like a radio volume control, increasing the signal when turned clockwise.

Connect air purge first if installing in process already at operating temperature. Provide minimum 5 psig (30 kPa) air pressure. 2. Install IRt/c and align to view the desired target. Bring target to operating temperature if not already there. Connect leads to readout device to be used (controller, PLC, etc.). 3. If the target temperature is not known, measure the target temperature with an accurate reference. Remove the setscrew to expose the calibration screw. Adjust the calibration screw to obtain reading desired. Replace the setscrew cover when complete. For final process adjustments, the ZERO or OFFSET adjustments available on readout devices can be conveniently used. • Installation and calibration complete. • To maximize the linear range, see Tech Note #70. • Calibration screw operates like a radio volume control: clockwise increases signal.
