CHALLENGE The company needed a better, faster and more reliable method for potting a ber optic bundle on an otoscope. A low viscosity resin was selected that had suitable mechanical properties but presented challenging process parameters. Additionally, regulations inherent in the manufacturing of medical devices imposed specic restrictions on an otherwise straightforward process and on the system design. SOLUTION Exact engineers selected the compact Model 860-5 equipped with a Digital Preset shot size control that incorporates a Linear Encoder for precise, repeatable shots. A 400 Series Dynamic Mixing Head was chosen to address the challenging mix requirements of the epoxy. These items were incorporated into a mobile cart, the use of which facilitated the qualication process for the equipment. An ergonomic work station was designed into the cart, providing a comfortable platform for the operator.
