Phased Array Solution OLYMPUS*— EdgeFORMEdgeFORM™ Phased Array Bond Seam Wheel Probe Efficient Scanning of Bonded/Glued Joints The EdgeFORM™ phased array wheel probe is used by automotive manufacturers to perform encoded data inspection of voids in bonded/glued seams in trunks, hoods, and door panels. The EdgeFORM probe is also a useful tool for inspecting other thin, smooth-surfaced materials such as steel or composite. The probe wheel is made of a unique material that enables high-quality, immersion-like ultrasonic testing. The EdgeFORM probe requires minimal couplant and pressure to inspect flat or slightly curved surfaces. The probe can be extended from the scanner frame to cover larger seams or retracted to avoid interference with a feature on the part being inspected. Open the catalog to page 1The Edge of Technology The EdgeFORM™ phased array probe produces zero-degree ultrasonic beams. The built-in encoder enables the instrument to produce a clear C-scan image of the bond seam’s condition. Where the bond is good, the sound will be transmitted and attenuated in the different layers of glue and metal sheets. In the absence of a good bond, most of the signal energy will be reflected back. A gate is used in your OmniScan® flaw detector to help identify the bond seam and show it in a C-scan image. The image is color coded according to the signal amplitude. End of bond Bad bond...
