Wiring and Cable Sizing
  • Wind Turbine Wiring: Guidelines for extending output wires and ensuring proper connections to avoid power loss and overheating.
Electrical System Considerations All electrical systems experience energy loss due to cable resistance. The mounting structure must be earthed for lightning protection, with power cables routed inside the structure for protection. Supply cables should be buried at least 0.5 meters deep in a suitable conduit.Battery Wiring Battery wiring typically matches the turbine power wiring size, though smaller diameters can be used due to shorter distances between the charge controller and battery.Lightning Protection Proper grounding is crucial to protect against induced voltages and static. The generator should be electrically connected to the mounting structure, which is earthed by burying a steel or copper pipe horizontally below the ground. Grounding wire size should match power cables, and commercial lightning arrestors can be installed.Wire Tables Wire sizes are calculated for a 3% power loss, with recommendations for minimum sizes. Wire lengths account for a double cable run, and sizes are given in both metric and AWG.Battery Considerations Batteries should be deep cycle types, with lead acid, sealed gel, and Ni-Cad being common options. Temperature compensation is generally only useful in extreme conditions.Technical Specifications The controller models are specified for different power and current ratings, with input voltage variations and efficiency details provided. The controller features natural convection cooling and complies with EMC requirements.Troubleshooting Common issues include polarity reversal, electrical shorts, and high operating temperatures. Solutions involve checking connections, adjusting load, and using the turbine stop switch.Maintenance The controller requires no regular part replacement but should be kept clean to ensure proper airflow.Warranty Conditions The warranty covers defects for two years, subject to proper installation and use. It excludes damage from extreme winds and allows for repair, replacement, or refund at Eveready's discretion.Contact Information Kestrel Wind Turbines can be contacted via phone, email, or their website for further assistance.
