CTIA Authorized Test Lab

Product catalog summary

Introduction

In December 2002, ETS-Lindgren became the first CTIA Authorized Test Lab (CATL) for mobile station radiated performance testing. This certification is crucial for wireless devices to receive a Certification Seal, as they must be tested by a CATL using the CTIA’s Radiated Power test procedure.

Development and Approval

ETS-Lindgren's CATL approval was achieved after extensive collaboration with CTIA’s Subject Matter Experts and the ERP Ad-Hoc Working Group. This collaboration led to the development of a new site evaluation test procedure and an associated uncertainty calculation, providing ETS-Lindgren with in-depth knowledge of CATL requirements.

Product Offering

The company focuses on manufacturing and marketing the AMS-8000 System, a turnkey package for antenna measurement. This system includes a tapered or rectangular anechoic chamber, a Multi-Axis Positioning System (MAPS), EMQuest EMQ-100 Pattern Measurement Software, and optional test equipment configurations. Over a dozen AMS-8000 systems have been sold globally.

Software Capabilities

The EMQuest EMQ-100 software supports the latest CTIA requirements for radiated power measurement and offers features to reduce test time. It includes powerful data acquisition, post-processing, 2-D and 3-D graphing, and report generation capabilities.

Testing Equipment

For CTIA testing, MAPS can be equipped with support masts for free-space phone testing and testing against a simulated human head. The redesigned medium duty support mast includes a quick release mechanism for mounting a CTIA approved SAM1 Phantom head, reducing RF interference.

Calibration and Certification

ETS-Lindgren offers Reference Sleeve Dipoles and Resonant Loops for the CTIA required ripple test. These antennas are used to characterize the quiet zone performance of the AMS-8000 System. The calibration process, audited and approved by the American Association of Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA), ensures the symmetry of both dipoles and loops.

Accreditation and Traceability

ETS-Lindgren’s calibration lab is accredited by A2LA, with mutual recognition agreements worldwide. The laboratory equipment is NIST traceable, and test processes are computer-controlled for repeatability and data tracking.

Corporate Information

ETS-Lindgren is part of ESCO Technologies Corporation, a New York Stock Exchange listed company headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri.

Disclaimer

While the AMS-8000 and EMQuest software can perform tests meeting CTIA standards, external factors may affect achieving CATL status or compliance with CTIA standards.
