Essa Company History Our origins date back to 1981 when Labtechnics Pty Ltd was first established in Adelaide, South Australia. This company marketed a product range including internationally patented high performance ring mill bowls (grinding heads) and associated mills. Just two years later, in 1983, the separate entity of ESSA Pty Ltd (abbreviated from Engineering and Sampling Systems Australasia) commenced operations in Perth, Western Australia. This company was a specialist manufacturer of sampling, sample preparation and metallurgical test equipment.

In 1990 ESSA Australia Pty Ltd was restructured through a management buyout, under the stewardship of the then Managing Director, and now CEO, Darryl Stevens. At that time, both the Labtechnics and ESSA range of products were receiving clear approval from mining companies and mineral testing laboratories around the globe. In 1997 ESSA and Labtechnics merged to form Labtech Essa Pty Ltd, and in the following year all operations were consolidated to Perth.
