The first stage processes powder into a pre-plasticated agglomerate feeding the second processing stage for plastication. This configuration essentially extends the life time of the screws and cylinders. High Quality for PVC Extrudates A sufficiently large L/D-ratio is the pre-condition for best melt quality at high output rates. We at esde separate the process from powder to extrudate into two processing steps. 1st processing unit (agglomerator for pre-plastification) • Two screws co-rotate in the agglomerator for a powerful mixing • High heat input • Low pressure 2nd processing unit (successive extruder) • Contra-rotating screws gently plasticize the material • Pressure build-up in front of the tool Degassing An efficient degassing system is very important for many plastic melts. In esde twin screw extruders the degassing is provided in the transition area from the first to the second processing unit. This way a highly effective venting is achieved as the agglomerate has a large surface area and a long residence time under vaccum. For the extrusion of raw materials which require pre-drying, the esde vacuum lock is an energy-saving alternative. The entire extrusion process – from the hopper to the melting point in the extruder – is under vacuum. This system essentially shortens the pre-drying time or even makes it superfluous.
