The cylindrical mandrel bending test is used to evaluate the flexibility and adhesive properties of coatings under bending stress. The Model 266 S and 266 S-Basic comply with EN ISO 1519, EN 13523-7, and ASTM D 522 standards.
The test determines the largest cylinder diameter at which a coating shows cracking or flaking after bending. Model 266 S can test samples up to 100 mm wide.
The Model 266 S is a compact, robust lever-type instrument made of lacquered steel for table-top use. It includes 14 interchangeable cylindrical mandrels (diameters 2-32 mm) and three pivoted pressure rollers made of rigid PVC. The Model 266 S-Basic includes one mandrel of choice, with additional mandrels available for order.
The test involves inserting a test sheet between the mandrel and pressure rollers, securing it with a clamping unit, and bending it around the mandrel using a lever. The bending should be smooth and take 1-2 seconds.
