Product catalog summary
Introduction
ERDWICH is a leading manufacturer in recycling technology, specializing in the processing of electronic waste, particularly LCD monitors containing mercury. The company offers advanced solutions for the safe and efficient recycling of these hazardous materials.

Specifications and Plant Designs
ERDWICH has developed two main plant designs for processing LCD screens:
  • Monitor Sawing Plant: Designed for screens between 15" and 25", this plant uses bandsaw technology to cut and open monitors, allowing for the easy removal of mercury-containing backlighting.
  • Robot-Based Plant: Suitable for screens between 25" and 55", this plant processes 45 devices per hour using advanced sensor and control technology. It ensures a safe process by automatically checking milling cutters and controlling tool wear for predictive maintenance.

Processing Procedures
The processing of LCD screens involves several steps:
  1. Monitors are fed onto a conveyor belt and moved into a closed processing chamber.
  2. A robot equipped with a camera and milling spindle measures and cuts the screen, with swarf extracted by a filter system.
  3. The screen is then moved to a vacuum chamber where layers are removed, and mercury-containing components are safely disposed of.
  4. The mercury-free screen is discharged for further recycling to recover raw materials.

Technical Data
The monitor sawing plant has dimensions of 16,000 mm in length, 6,000 mm in width, and 3,800 mm in height, with a throughput rate of 60 devices per hour. The robot-based plant measures 19,200 mm in length, 3,500 mm in width, and 3,800 mm in height, with a throughput rate of 45 devices per hour.

Environmental and Regulatory Compliance
ERDWICH's technology complies with German regulations for hazardous waste, ensuring safe collection, pollutant removal, and waste separation. The company emphasizes the importance of preventing mercury vapors from escaping and transforming them into non-poisonous sulphide.

PLANT ENGINEERING Processing LCD display devices up to
55" under controlled process conditions! The mercurial background lighting contained in LCD display devices is regarded as a hazardous substance within the waste from electronic equipment. It has been classified by the legislator as a substance which has to be processed separately, whereby special conditions must ensure that there is no risk for nature and for humans due to mercury. New special processes developed by ERDWICH through practical application guarantee that the most diverse LCD display devices up to a size of 55“ can be recycled...

In the machine housing a jointed-arm robot equipped with a camera system and a milling spindle is located. Using the camera, the contours of the screen are measured. Once the screen has been cut open, it is pushed out by a pneumatic device and discharged via a belt conveyor into a closed chamber where a vacuum is maintained. Therein, the different layers of the display device are removed. The robot cuts open the complete structure of the LCD screen. During the process, the fine swarf produced from this operation is automatically extracted by a filter system. Subsequently, within the chamber,...
