Product catalog summary
Overview of Epilog CO2 Laser Systems for Metal Marking
Epilog CO2 laser systems are highly effective tools for permanently marking various metals. They can directly mark anodized aluminum, Alumamark, and coated or painted metals. For metals like stainless steel, bare aluminum, titanium, carbon steel, and chrome plating, a metal marking compound such as CerMark™ or Thermark™ is used in conjunction with the laser to achieve high-contrast marks.
Advantages of CO2 Laser Metal Marking
CO2 laser marking is increasingly popular due to its ability to produce permanent, high-contrast marks on metals. Anodized aluminum has been marked with CO2 lasers for years, and with metal marking compounds, even traditionally challenging metals like stainless steel and titanium can be marked effectively.
Metal Marking Process
The process involves three steps: applying a metal marking compound, engraving with the laser, and washing off the excess compound. This method is suitable for various metals and produces durable marks that withstand physical testing, including exposure to solvents, acids, and abrasion.
UID Laser Marking Solution
Unique Identification (UID) is a program for tracking government property. Epilog lasers provide a cost-effective solution for UID marking, compatible with various software for bar coding and graphics. The systems are designed for marking individual items and non-removable tags.
Working with Anodized and Painted Metals
CO2 lasers are ideal for marking anodized aluminum, producing high-contrast marks without damaging the coating. They can also mark painted surfaces by penetrating the paint to reveal the underlying material.
Additional Applications
Epilog lasers are versatile, capable of cutting gasket materials and creating prototypes quickly. They can engrave control panels and cut non-metallic materials up to 1" thick, making them suitable for industrial cutting and prototyping.

Metal Working Guide-2

Laser marking of different metals using a CO > 2 laser is finding increased applications as the industry develops a better understanding of how the CO > 2 engraving process works. Some metals anodized aluminum for instance ֖ have been marked with CO > 2 lasers for years. Products like serial tags, identification plates, and control panels are all excellent examples of how well the laser marking process works with anodized aluminum. Other metals, like stainless steel and titanium have traditionally not been marked with a CO > 2 laser; however with the advent of metal marking compounds, CO > 2...
