Product catalog summary
Overview
The Ceracore USC70 is a capacitive, ceramic pressure sensor designed for measuring pressures in both liquid and gaseous media. It features a dry capacitive ceramic sensor made from ultrapure Al2O3 ceramic, providing high overload resistance, long-term stability, and corrosion resistance. The sensor supports both digital and analog signal outputs, with measuring ranges from 0 to 0.1 bar (0 to 1.5 psi) up to 0 to 40 bar (0 to 580 psi). Optional outputs include temperature and switch output.

Function and System Design
The sensor uses a capacitive measurement principle with a ceramic sensor element, making it highly resistant to aggressive gases and liquids. The CARMEN ASIC is utilized for measuring and compensating sensor properties, including offset and temperature effects.

Input Specifications
The sensor measures gauge or absolute pressure and temperature, operating within specified limits to prevent damage. It provides digital values even if the range is exceeded by up to 10%.

Power Supply and Connection
The sensor requires a supply voltage of 2.9 to 5.5 V DC and consumes less than 1.6 mA. It uses a female header strip for connections, with incorrect polarity or cable breaks potentially causing damage or incorrect readings.

Output Characteristics
The sensor provides voltage and digital outputs, with signal ranges based on NAMUR NE 43 standards. Configurable error behavior and additional functions like damping and noise filtering are available.

Performance Characteristics
Under reference operating conditions, the sensor offers high reference accuracy and long-term stability, with a Total Error Band accounting for various influencing factors.

Installation and Environment
Installation conditions, including position and temperature ranges, are specified to ensure optimal performance. The sensor is designed to withstand various environmental conditions, including electromagnetic compatibility and overvoltage protection.

Mechanical Construction and Standards
Details on device dimensions, materials, and compliance with standards like RoHS are provided. Calibration and ordering information are also included.

Additional Information
Supplementary documentation and explanations of terms and abbreviations are included to aid understanding and application of the sensor.

Function and system design Measuring principle A capacitive ceramic sensor element is at the core of the USC70. The basic material is (Al2O3), an ultrapure (99.9%) aluminum oxide ceramic that is highly resistant to many aggressive gases and liquids. Two cylindrical ceramic components (process isolating diaphragm and ceramic substrate) are hermetically sealed together. In the case of absolute pressure sensors, the reference vacuum of 3.0 x 10-6 mbar that is generated in the production process between the process isolating diaphragm and the ceramic substrate becomes permanent, thereby enabling...

Measured process variable ■ Gauge pressure or absolute pressure Measuring range 1) If the maximum sensor measuring range is exceeded or undershot by up to 10 %, digital measured values are still provided. In this range, however, the performance characteristics of the measured values can deviate by a factor of up to 3. The maximum pressure for the measuring device depends on the lowest-rated element with regard to pressure. ► The measuring device must be operated only within the specified limits!
