DC Motors_Marine_2013_Technical Data Sheet 15/04/13 08.34 Pagina 1 MARINE & OFFSHORE Today, Nidec ASI is one the world’s leading suppliers of DC motors for marine propulsion systems. Thanks to our engineering capabilities we can also handle special designs, adapting machines to specific constraints that can arise during ship design. Our analysis methods and design techniques are based upon years of experience in special vessel applications (oceanographic research vessels, naval vessels, cruise ship vessels). Main characteristics We have significant experience in designing machines to meet stringent structural borne noise and vibration requirements. Our DC motors are designed with a highly effective low-noise cooling system that allows high power – high torque performance from compact machines. High torque performance is possible thanks to the sized Shaft Ends, constructed from certified high quality steel. The result is a series of propulsion motors with one of the lowest predicted noise vibration spectra on the market. The brush commutator system guarantees excellent performance and commutation over a wide speed range. The machines are insulated using a VPI process. Our insulation system is one of the best on the market. Due to its outstanding dielectric and mechanical properties, this class H insulation system (with class F temperature rise) is qualified for use in aggressive environments and is particularly suitable for marine applications, ensuring a high level of reliability over the entire life cycle. Moreover the mechanical design facilitates transportation, installation and maintenance. For example, the skid mounted tandem configuration for propulsion motors reduces installation time. Standards We can supply DC Motors with any one of the following classification standards: ABS, RINA, DNV, Lloyds Register. Nidec ASI DC motors are manufactured in compliance with international standards IEC 34-1 and with harmonized standards of CENELEC for European Countries EN 60034 and HD 53. On request the motors can be supplied electrically conform to NEMA (MG-1, etc..) or other specific recommendations
