Overview: The document provides detailed specifications and ordering information for various series of thermal expansion valves (TXVs) by Emerson Climate Technologies, specifically focusing on the HF, HFK, HFESC, and HFSC series. These valves are used in refrigeration systems and are categorized based on refrigerant compatibility and tonnage capacity.
Specifications: The document lists multiple configurations of TXVs, detailing the connection sizes, cap tube lengths, and product codes (PCN) for each model. The valves are designed for different refrigerants, including R-134a, R-12, R-22, R-407C, R-404A, R-507, and R-502, with capacities ranging from 1/8 to 10 tons.
Procedures: The document includes a section on selecting the appropriate valve based on refrigerant type and required capacity. It provides an example of how to use the Nominal Capacity Table to determine the equivalent valve size when switching between refrigerants.
Recommendations: Users are advised to consult the Nominal Capacity Table for accurate valve selection, especially when dealing with interchangeable refrigerant charges. The document emphasizes the importance of selecting the correct valve size to ensure optimal system performance.
Key Data: The tables within the document provide a comprehensive list of TXV models, including their specific configurations and corresponding PCNs. This information is crucial for ordering and inventory management.

HF - HFK Series-1

HF/HFK Series Thermal Expansion Valves The HF series is a balanced ported valve designed for refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pump applications. • Stainless steel replaceable power element eliminates corrosion and prevents valve failure • Two body sizes provide capacities from 1/4 to 20 tons • The HF is offered several ways: – Pre-packaged HFK service kits – Include a mix of bodies and power elements with a complete set of cages to serve the most applications with a minimum of parts – Individual components – Bodies, cages, & power elements may be ordered separately – Finished valves – Assembled valves ready for immediate installation • Bi-Flow capability up to 5-1/2 tons R-22 allows one valve to control the superheat in both cooling and heating modes NOTE: If the HF body is stamped HFK, then the cage is replaceable. ODF or SAE connections Straight-through or angle flow configurations Removable inlet strainer (ODF only) Internal or external equalizer • Maximum working pressure: • UR/CUR file number: • Capacity range from 8 to 20 tons (R-22) • Finished valve only Nomenclature example: HFESC 2 HC 5 FT 3/8 x 1/2 ODF S/T HF Valve Series Superheat Equalizer Connection Removable Bleed Capacity Adjustment Type Inlet Strainer Hole Nominal N = Non- E=External S = Solder (optional) (optional) Rating in Balanced Adjustable Tons Port (Omit for (Omit for C = Inlet Design Omit for Internal) SAE Flare) Strainer (Omit for (See nominal Adjustable (ODF only) no bleed capacity hole) table below) Refrigerant Charge Code Capillary Inlet x Outlet Connection Configuration Code Tube Connection Type +F = R-12 C = medium temp Length Sizes ANG = 90° angle • H = R-22 CA = heat pump SAE = flare S/T = straight-thru +M = R-134a W(MOP) = press. 5 FT (std) 1/4 x 3/8 ODF = solder • N = R-407C limiting 3/8 x 1/2 * P = R-507 Z = low temp * R = R-502 AA = wide range * S = R-404A + = R-12 and R-134a are interchangeable refrigerant charges * = R-507, R-502 and R-404A are interchangeable refrigerant charges • = R-22 and R-407C are interchangeable refrigerant charges HF Series-Nominal* Capacity Tables in Tons (kW) Standard Body HF R-12 All capacities shown are at 100°F condensing, 40°F evaporator temperature. *See Extended Capacity Tables for ratings at a wide range of conditions per ARI standard 750.
