  • Resistant to corrosive condensate, freezing, and steam lock.
  • In-line maintenance capability.
  • Responsive to load changes with excellent air handling.
  • Small, lightweight design with performance testing per ASME and ISO standards.
General Application
These steam traps are used for condensate removal in high-pressure industrial and steam systems, with the C250 model being notably smaller than other mechanical traps for similar applications.
Technical Data
  • Technology: Thermodynamic piston and lever.
  • Sizes: NPS ½ to 3 (DN 15 to 80).
  • Max Temperature: 750°F (400°C).
  • Pressure Rating: 2 to 1500 psig (0.14 to 103 bar).
  • Capacity: Up to 80,000 lb/hr (36,000 kg/hr).
  • Connections: Socket weld, threaded, flanged.
  • Materials: Chrome moly.
Process Applications
  • Gravity Drainage: Used in shell and tube heat exchangers, requiring adequate air venting to maintain efficiency.
  • Syphon/Lift Drainage: Utilized in rotary dryers, requiring traps with hot discharge and fast response to handle flash steam.
Thermodynamic Trap Selection
Thermodynamic traps are preferred for their ability to differentiate between condensate and steam, with a simple design and only one moving part. They are suitable for various high-pressure applications and offer advantages such as moderate capacity, excellent air handling, and a fail-open design.
Variable Orifice Design
These traps adjust to the energy in cool and flashing condensate, providing a responsive solution to changes in condensate load.
Lever Style Design
Ideal for outdoor and freezing environments, these traps handle large condensate loads and provide rapid discharge.
Series C-250/C-260
Designed for high-pressure applications with a Quick Change Trim (QCT) feature, these traps offer a renewable in-line design with factory-set internals.
Specifications and Materials
The document lists detailed specifications for materials used in the construction of the traps, including chrome moly and stainless steel components.
Installation and Ordering
Guidelines for specifying, ordering, and installing the traps are provided, emphasizing the importance of correct sizing and connection types.

GUIDELINES FOR TYPICAL PROCESS APPLICATIONS Depending on the application, a process steam trap will probably have to handle heavy startup loads, often followed by smaller running loads. The trap's function is to drain the process equipment and thus ensure that effective heat transfer is achieved (through latent heat). A few guidelines for optimum results include: • Provide an adequate size process connection from equipment. • Locate trap below the equipment (water runs downhill). • Use good piping practice to ensure that clean condensate is presented to the trap. • Include air vents and vacuum...

YARWAY PROCESS THERMODYNAMIC STEAM TRAPS SERIES 40/40D AND C250/260-3

Why choose a thermodynamic steam trap? Thermodynamic traps are phase detectors in that they can discriminate between condensate and steam. The working principle is simple and, with only one moving part, these devices are small and rugged. There are three basic types of thermodynamic traps which differ from one another by the configuration of the valve they use to open and close a port. Each is well-adapted to a particular set of service conditions. The main thermodynamic feature that is desirable in process applications is the hot-running design and responsiveness to load changes. Thermodynamic...
