Protection Device Test Equipment

Product catalog summary
Overview of Surge Phenomena
Surge currents can lead to overvoltages in power and data networks, posing a risk to electronic equipment. These surges are primarily caused by lightning but can also result from direct contact with power circuits or high-energy transients. Surge Protection Devices (SPDs) are used to mitigate these effects by clamping and diverting transient energy to the ground.
Applicable Standards
The document references several standards for testing SPDs, including IEC 60060-1, IEC 61643-1, IEC 61000-4-5, IEC 61180-1, ITU K.44, ANSI C62.41, and UL1449. These standards define the requirements and test methodologies for surge protection devices.
Test System Overview
The Protection Device Test System includes tests for clamping voltage, surge withstand, energy absorption, and combination wave. It supports currents up to 100kA and voltages up to 24kV, featuring a compact design and remote control capabilities for easy integration and automation, reducing operator workload and training needs.
Generator Specifications
The system comprises various testers for different surge and energy absorption tests. Clamping voltage testers like MIG0603CLV1 and CLV2 offer multiple source impedances and measurement ranges. Surge withstand testers, such as MIG0603CLP and MIG0612, provide high current testing capabilities. Energy absorption testers like MIG0612EA and MIG0636EA use rectangular waveforms for testing varistors.
Accessories and Options
The system offers a variety of accessories to enhance testing capabilities, including coupling and decoupling networks (CDNs) and software for remote control and upgrades.
Software
The system includes software for managing tests and integrating with existing facilities, featuring automated test routines and report generation.
EMC PARTNER’s Product Range
EMC PARTNER provides a comprehensive range of products for testing SPDs, ensuring compliance with international standards and offering reliable and efficient testing solutions.

Brief Overview of Phenomena Surge currents can generate over voltages in power distribution and data transmission networks. Computer related products, process control equipment and data communications environments can be damaged by high-voltage surges and spikes. Such power surges and spikes are most often caused by lightning strikes. However, there are occasions when the surges and spikes result from any one of a variety of other causes. These causes may include direct contact with power/lightning circuits, high energy transients coupled into equipment from cables in close proximity and potential...

Generators Impulse testing is performed on components and assemblies either on the production line or in quality control laboratories. Tests on power main protection devices are performed on single and three phase power ports. Because of the high energy levels involved, a special Coupling and Decoupling Network (CDN) is required to superimpose the impulses and provide protection for auxiliary equipment that is not part of the test setup. Accurate monitoring of the impulse wave shapes on the EUT is an essential part of any protection device test system. Clamping Voltage Testers MIG0603CLV1 and...

Surge Withstand Testers The 6kV and 12kV testers consist of 4 or 5 identical circuits which can be connected in parallel. The advantages of this conguration are that two or four electrode SPDs can be tested and the overall current range is greater compared to a single circuit device. Surge Withstand Testers 6kV - MIG0603CLP Varistor tester with waveforms 8/20μs, 10/1000μs, CWG 1.2/50μs / 8/20μs - MIG0606 Current tester 8/20μs 2x 3kA, Zsource 1 or 2 Ohm - MIG0612 Current tester 8/20μs, 2x 6kA , Zsource per circuit 1 Ohm MIG0624 - MIG0612UL Varistor tester with waveforms 8/20μs, 10/1000μs, CWG...
