S-Serie Screw S-VSI 300 OXY for protective gas packaging Dry running screw vacuum pump offers important reductions in operating and maintenance costs Replacing air by protective gas (MAP) in food packaging extends shelf life and improves the visual presentation of food. The gases principally used for this purpose are carbon dioxide, nitrogen and oxygen. Adding even small amounts of oxygen to air markedly speeds up combustion processes and can cause considerable damage to machinery and equipment. Elmo Rietschle has developed a dry running screw vacuum pump for packaging under protective gas which needs no coolant or sealing medium in the suction chamber. This pump is water-cooled; the heat generated is dissipated from the packaging room. Using this new screw vacuum oxygen pump offers important advantages over oil lubricated rotary vane pumps as you can keep the costs of ownership low.
