DATA BULLETIN Analysis of 19-Norandrosterone by GC-C-IRMS Nandralone is an anabolic androgenic steroid which is known to have performance enhancing characteristics and so has been banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency. 19-Norandrosterone (19-NA) is the main metabolite of Nandralone and GC-C-IRMS analysis of the δ13C ratio of this compound is able to distinguish between endogenous and exogenous sources. Because of the differences in physiology in male and female athletes it is common that 19-NA concentrations in males can be at INSTRUMENT: AnthrovisION DETAILS: mode: C sample: Nandralone / 19-NA challengingly low levels. This Data Bulletin presents δ13C analysis of 19-NA using the AnthrovisION GC-C-IRMS over a large range of sample concentrations. The limit of isotope quantification for this analysis and the linearity performance of the system is demonstrated. The 19-NA samples were pure synthetic compounds and were analyzed as a single compound injection in to the GC to avoid any issues with co-elution or contamination. CONC [ppm] Over a wide range of sample concentrations, the GC-C-IRMS system achieved a precision of 0.37‰ down to a sample concentration of 2.4 ng or 200 pmols of carbon on column which represents very high sensitivity for this analysis of a challenging steroid compound.
