Martensitic Steels:

Limited weldability.
Contains chromium and a small percentage of nickel.

Nominal Composition of Selected Grades:

304L and 316L: Low carbon content, chromium, and nickel.
SAF 2304: Higher chromium and nitrogen content for improved corrosion resistance.
904L and 254 SMO: High nickel and molybdenum content for enhanced corrosion resistance.

Applications and Processes:

Corrosion resistance, annealing, bead rolling, TIG/MIG welding, cryogenics, pickling, passivation, and electro-polishing.
Critical systems in pharmaceutical manufacturing include high purity water, clean steam, compressed gases, clean-in-place systems, HVAC, and drainage.
