AAQMS (Ambient Air Quality Monitoring System) - 1

TRAFFIC TUNNEL - AIR QUALITY MONITORING (TAQMS) Gas concentrations and visibility are both critical factors in tunnel exposure and tunnel ventilation design. Therefore reliable, accurate and low maintenance instrumentation is crucial to successful tunnel operation. Existing in-tunnel analyser technology is subject to a number of issues, primarily associated with accuracy and maintenance. Recent developments in Quantum Cascade Laser (QCL) technology for gas detection and integrating nephelometers, using scattering coefficient measurement for visibility has resulted in significant changes for tunnel monitoring. Fully integrated system The system provides a fully integrated package that includes a measurement system, sample pumps, calibration valves, and data logger as a compact low power system. The fast response time allows up to six separate locations (up to 100m from the analysers) to be The instrument is designed to be easily installed and operated. It is extremely robust and does not require With an automatic calibration system it can be operated unattended for long periods of time. Remote communication, validation and reporting software means that data can be easily downloaded. These features enable the TAQMS system to be installed and reliably operated in inhospitable locations such as traffic tunnels. The multi-gas analyser incorporates mid-infrared optical absorption spectroscopy technology. It's a flexible continuous monitoring system that measures the concentrations of multiple gases The system utilises a unique technique providing superb accuracy, sensitivity, selectivity and eliminates span and zero drift. It requires virtually no maintenance or calibration gases. It measures the following gases: The TAQMS system directly measures light scattered by aerosols in an enclosed sample volume. This provides a direct measurement of visibility which can be correlated to measure particulate concentrations. The scattered radiation is integrated over a large range of scattering angles in a defined band of visible wavelengths. Since the total light scattered out of a path is the same as the reduction of light along a path due to scattering, the integrating nephelometer gives a direct measurement of

Detection method Detection method The system utilises unique quantum cascade lasers that use the optical absorption spectroscopy technique to produce a wavelength sweep. This sweep covers the mid-infrared absorption lines where gases of interest are measured. The sensor has been developed around a solid state technology platform with no moving parts, to ensure that both industrial life time and robustness The main advantages of using a low noise, narrow band optical source such as the QCL include: • Real time monitoring • High dynamic range • Insensitive to vibrations and cross...
