Airflex® DBB & DBA Brakes

Product catalog summary
Overview: The document outlines the technical specifications and descriptions of Airflex® DBB and DBA brakes, which are spring-applied and pressure-released disc-style brakes. These brakes are designed for equal torque in both rotational directions and are suitable for demanding applications due to their torque and thermal capacities.
DBB Brakes:
  • Description: DBB brakes feature a conventional piston design for releasing brake discs, with low inertia friction disc cores and riveted friction discs for high cyclic performance.
  • Features: Include low inertia friction disc assembly, optional split friction discs, and self-lubricating PolyPak® seals.
  • Applications: Suitable for bottling equipment, power shovels, draglines, conveyors, shears, and power presses.
  • Component Parts: Includes mounting flange, friction disc sub-assembly, pressure plate, etc.
  • Technical Data: Provides torque ratings, pressure requirements, and dimensions for various DBB models.
DBBS Brakes:
  • Description: Similar to DBB but designed for higher speed operations or precise balance, using a solid rotor and stationary friction material.
  • Technical Data: Includes torque ratings, pressure requirements, and dimensions for DBBS models.
DBA Brakes:
  • Description: DBA brakes use a rubber diaphragm for the releasing pressure chamber and are available with solid or ventilated discs.
  • Features: Large friction area for high energy loads and minimal adjustment for lining wear.
  • Applications: Used in can making machines, draglines, power shovels, conveyors, and power presses.
General Notes:
  • Torque ratings are based on standard spring configurations, with custom options available.
  • Maximum cylinder pressure is 120 psi (8.3 bar).
  • Dimensional data is provided in both English and metric units.
Component List: Lists components of the mechanical system, such as mounting flange, stud, clamp tube, disc, and friction disc, each identified by a number.
Torque and Pressure Specifications: Specifies torque ratings for standard and non-standard spring configurations, with a maximum cylinder pressure of 120 psi (8.3 bar). Notes that dynamic torque is shown, with static torque approximately 1.15 times greater, and torque decreases with lining wear.
Dimensional Data: Provides English and SI dimensions for DBA elements, including bore sizes and details on ventilated and solid disc types.
Technical Data: Includes torque ratings, releasing pressure, volume, area, mass, and maximum speed for different brake models (e.g., 129DBAS, 229DBAS, 129DBAV).
Mounting Information: Special mounting flanges are available for 800 series frame motors, with details on mounting holes and bolt circles.
Contact Information: Eaton Corporation provides contact details for technical assistance and offers a catalog with comprehensive information on Airflex clutches and brakes.

DBB Description Model DBB brakes are spring applied, pressure released, disc style brakes. They develop equal torque in either direction of rotation. Their torque and thermal capacities allow them to be used in the most demanding applications. Brake construction and operation is shown in the figure. Pressurizing the brake compresses the brake springs and withdraws the clamping plates from the brake discs. Standard brakes are furnished with multiple discs, which are free to move axially. Model DBB uses a conventional piston design to release the brake discs. The rotation component of the DBB style...
