General Overview:
Polychlorotrifluoroethylene (PCTFE) is highlighted for its excellent mechanical properties, resistance to creep, high performance in cryogenic applications, and excellent electrical-insulating properties. It also features low friction behavior, high hardness, near-zero moisture absorption, extremely low permeability, excellent barrier properties, flame retardancy, excellent chemical resistance, and good transparency.
Physical Properties:
The density of PCTFE is between 2.10 - 2.16 g/cm3. It has a maximum water absorption of less than 0.01% over 24 hours.
Mechanical Properties:
PCTFE exhibits a tensile strength ranging from 31 to 45 MPa, elongation at break between 50% and 150%, and a tensile modulus of 1 to 1.6 GPa. The hardness is measured at Shore D 70 - 80. Deformation under load is 1% at 25°C, 2.5% at 70°C, and 12% at 125°C.
Thermal Properties:
The peak melting temperature is between 210 - 212°C. The specific heat capacity at 23°C is 0.9 kJ/kg°C, and thermal conductivity at 23°C is 0.35 W/mK. The maximum service temperature is 150°C.
Electrical Properties:
PCTFE has a dielectric strength of 21 kV/mm at 1.60mm thickness, a dielectric constant of 2.3, and a volume resistivity greater than 1018 ohm cm. The oxygen index is greater than 95%.
