Quality control during the manufacturing process dsound® USS4-LS-1

Quality control during the manufacturing process Intelligent sound recognition during production Using intelligent sound sensors, the dsound®-system controls and secures the quality of different materials and components used during production. Schwerin, 06.11.2023 · Sound recognition is suitable for many in-process, comprehensive quality inspections in production. Especially in industrial mass production anomalies or deviations in the process can be detected early and minimize the risk of failures. Ds automation is already successful in that specialized area. The company develops acoustic sensors that, based on acoustic characteristics, can reliably perform quality inspections on small parts made of metal, glass, or ceramic. For example, the dsound® USS4 airborne sound sensor “hears” even the slightest changes in sound and can thus draw conclusions about the quality of the component or the material. “If there are, for example, small fissures in screws, inclusions in split rings or geometry errors in turned parts, our sensors notice immediately”, says Ronald Meyer, Development Engineer at ds automation. Quality inspection of valve seat rings The sensors recognize in real time during serial production, whether a component “sounds right” and sort out defective parts. This way, quality control is also possible in areas, where other control systems such as cameras are too expensive, high maintenance or where errors simply aren’t visible. “This offers diverse advantages for industrial manufactures”, Arndt Kritzner, CEO of ds automation explains. “With our acoustic procedure, you are able to test the quality of your products early and identify defective material. Thus, those defective materials aren’t processed further and the end product won’t be compromised. Our customers have a better grasp on their processes this way and avoid costs, the stress of reclamations and the need to rejects full batches. Overall, the entire manufacturing process is more efficient this way.” In this context, ds automation has developed a range of sensors for various applications that handle tasks ranging from simple to highly complex and operate with extreme precision and in perfect synchronization with the production process. Leak test with exciter unit and airborne sound sensor During the production process, dsound® acoustic sensors inspect parts for dimensional accuracy, correct material composition, the presence of cracks, assembly completeness, gear tooth flank clearance, pressure tightness, and other quality criteria. Acoustic testing allows for the inspection of numerous

be difficult to detect using other testing methods. Material properties, cavities, or complex structures can be comprehensively and precisely checked for compliance with target criteria using sound. Both airborne and structure-borne sound can be detected and evaluated with dsound® sensors. Depending on the application, determining a valid test result can vary in complexity. For this reason, ds automation offers sensors in two different performance levels, suitable for either simpler or more complex test algorithms. Depending on the application requirements, limited or comprehensive configuration...
