Product catalog summary
Overview: GRAFILIT® SP is a gasket material made from expanded graphite with a tanged stainless steel insert, enhancing its surface load and blowout safety. It is known for its excellent chemical, thermal, and mechanical resistance, making it suitable for various industries including gas and steam supply, chemical, and petrochemical industries.
Properties: The material exhibits superior sealability, excellent thermal resistance, very good mechanical resistance, and good chemical resistance. It is applicable in general-purpose settings, water supply, steam and gas supply, chemical and petrochemical industries, automotive, shipbuilding, power plants, refrigeration, and more.
Technical Data: For a thickness of 1.5 mm, the typical values include a density of 1.5 g/cm³, compressibility of 35%, recovery of 17%, and stress resistance of 49 MPa at 300°C. The specific leak rate is 0.05 mg/(s·m), with leachable chloride and fluoride contents at 20 ppm each. The ash content of graphite is less than 1%.
Operating Conditions: The material can operate at temperatures ranging from -200°C to 700°C, depending on the atmosphere (oxidizing or reducing/inert). It can withstand pressures up to 160 bar for liquids and 130 bar for steam and gases.
Composition and Approvals: GRAFILIT® SP is composed of expanded natural graphite with a tanged stainless steel sheet insert (AISI 316). It is black in color and has several approvals including DIN-DVGW, API 607, and BAM for oxygen.
Chemical Resistance: The material is recommended for use with a wide range of chemicals, including acetic acid, acetone, ammonia, benzene, and many others. However, it is not recommended for use with certain acids like sulfuric acid at high concentrations.
Dimensions: Standard sheet sizes are 1000 x 1000 mm and 1500 x 1500 mm, with thicknesses ranging from 0.5 mm to 3.0 mm. Other sizes and thicknesses are available upon request.
P-T Diagrams: These diagrams indicate the maximum permissible combination of internal pressure and service temperature for the gasket material. Thinner gaskets generally exhibit better pressure-temperature properties.

P-T DIAGRAMS EN 1514-1, Type IBC, PN 40, DIN 28091-2 / 3.8, 1.5 mm P-T diagrams indicate the maximum permissible combination of internal pressure and service temperature which can be simultaneously applied for a given gasket according its material type, thickness, size and tightness class. Given the wide variety of gasket applications and service conditions, these values should only be regarded as guidance for the proper gasket assembly. In general, thinner gaskets exhibit better P-T properties. General suitability - Under common installation practices and chemical compatibility. Limited suitability...
