Adsorbent Breather Assembly

Adsorbent Breather Assembly

Adsorbent Breather Assembly

Product catalog summary
Installation in Drive: The Adsorbent Breather Assembly (ABA) is installed inside the disk drive, ideally in a low-pressure area near the spindle to facilitate air entry through the breather.
Description: The ABA combines a breather filter, adsorbent pouch filter, and diffusion channel into one unit. It is secured inside the drive with a pressure-sensitive adhesive label.
Principle of Operation: The ABA protects against particles, hydrocarbons, acid gases, and water vapor effects like condensation and corrosion. It uses a filtration membrane to remove particles and an adsorbent element to control humidity and adsorb gases. The diffusion channel minimizes the entry of harmful substances, extending the adsorbent's life. Common adsorbents include Activated Carbon for humidity and hydrocarbon control, Chemically Treated Activated Carbon for acid gases, and Silica Gel for humidity control.
Performance: The ABA achieves an efficiency of over 99.99% for 0.1 µm particles at a flow rate of 5.3 cm/s. It has a restriction range of 12.7 mm to 50.8 mm H2O at 0.5 cm³/s.
Product Guidelines and Specifications: The ABA is packaged in stackable trays with 25-75 parts per tray, enclosed in cleanroom bags free of contaminants. It is manufactured in a cleanroom environment to meet stringent cleanliness standards.
Contact Information: For more information, contact Donaldson Company at various international offices, including locations in Europe, Asia, and the USA.
Graph Analysis: The document includes a chemical breakthrough test graph, illustrating the ABA's performance over time. Results vary based on filter size, adsorbent type, and quantity, tailored to customer specifications.

Adsorbent Breather Assembly-1

ADSORBENT BREATHER Disk Drive The Adsorbent Breather Assembly (ABA) integrates a breather filter, adsorbent pouch filter and a diffusion channel into a single filter assembly. A pressure-sensitive adhesive label secures the filter over the breather hole The ABA is designed to provide protection from particles, hydrocarbons, acid gases, and the effect of water vapor, such as condensation and corrosion. The filtration membrane removes particles from incoming air. The adsorbent element is specially formulated to control humidity and to adsorb acid gases and hydrocarbons from internal and external sources. The integral diffusion channel reduces the amount of hydrocarbons, water vapor, and acid gases entering the drive from the surrounding environment and thereby extending the life of the adsorbent. The most common adsorbents and their associated functions are as follows: • Activated Carbon: Relative humidity control and adsorption of hydrocarbons • Chemically Treated Activated Carbon: Relative humidity control and adsorption of acid gases and hydrocarbons • Silica Gel: Relative humidity control The ABA is located on the inside of the drive. The filter location should be in a low pressure area of the drive so that air can enter through the breather. Generally, the best location is on the cover or the base casting as close as Adsorbent Material Plastic Body PTFE Membrane Diffusion Channel Drive Cover or Base
