F6816 External Input/Output unit The Doble F6816 External Input/Output unit is designed to work as an extension of the inputs and outputs that are provided on F6150. The user can utilize this add-on external unit to access 8 additional inputs and 8 additional outputs. The access to a total of 16 inputs and 16 outputs will allow monitoring and controlling of a large number of relay contacts. This will prove beneficial in elaborate end-toend tests and dynamic testing of protection schemes. The F6816 is a self contained unit containing the 16 contacts. These additional contacts are available to the user when using either Doble’s ProTesT or the F6TesT software. The diagram above shows the way in which F6816 is connected to the F6150. Two connections are required as shown above. The connection via Ethernet (RJ45) is for setting up the configuration of the contacts while the Logic Input/Output cable is used for carrying low level signals from the F6150 to the F6816. In addition, the F6816 has a DB9 serial port which is supplied for communicating with F6816 F6816 via Hyper Terminal program. This communication via Hyper Terminal program is required for maintenance purposes such as changing IP/Subnet address of the F6816, etc. The F6816 also requires a 120/240 V supply.
