A locking carabiner provides security and peace of mind for uses where it is critical that the gate remains closed, such as when belaying, abseiling or at main anchor points. The locking mechanism helps eliminate the risk of accidental unclipping plus prevents the carabiner being loaded in a situation where the gate has been knocked or pushed open – in this situation all carabiners would lose around two thirds of the maximum potential strength.
