Rota-Sonde TS5500

Product catalog summary
Overview: The Rota-Sonde TS5500 is an infrared loop scanner designed for measuring the position of hot products such as steel and other alloys. It provides outputs proportional to the angular position of the product within its field of view.
Specifications: The sensor is sensitive to infrared radiation from hot products with temperatures as low as 250°C. It features a configurable scanning angle, sensitivity range, and output values. The device includes two analogue outputs (4-20 mA and 0-10 V) and one digital output for product presence.
Features: Key features include a visible laser line for alignment, a control panel with position display, and self-diagnostic functions. The sensor is housed in a heavy-duty IP66-rated enclosure suitable for harsh environments, with air purging and water cooling options.
Applications: The TS5500 is used for vertical and horizontal loop control, hot strip centering, and slab edge control. It helps in controlling the speed between stands and provides edge position feedback for centerline and width measurement.
Operating Principle: The sensor detects infrared radiation from the leading edge of a hot product, converting this into a measuring pulse. The time between reference and measuring pulses corresponds to the angle of the product's position, which is then converted into an analogue output.
Construction: The device features a heavy-duty aluminum housing, adjustable mounting stand, cooling plate, and a hinged protective hood. The control panel includes a display for angle position, signal level, and threshold setup, with various LED indicators for product presence, control, and alarm.
Technical Characteristics: The TS5500 offers a configurable scanning angle (10°, 30°, or 50°), a temperature range starting from 250°C, and a response time of 2-4 ms. It operates on various power supplies (115V, 230V, 24VDC) and includes a protective steel-braided cable.
Accessories: Available accessories include a radiant bar for hot product simulation, a heat shield, a junction box for remote setup, and a mechanical adaptor for replacing older models.

Applications Features The Rota-Sonde TS5500 measures the position of a hot product (steel, copper, brass, other alloys) within its field of view and provides an output which is proportional to the angular position of the product within that field. The Rota-Sonde TS5500 is a scanning measuring sensor, sensitive to infrared radiation emitted by hot products with a minimum temperature as low as 250 °C (480 °F). Main features & benefits: • Quick & Easy commissioning with green laser line (TS55«-LL) or red laser pointer (TS55«-LP). • Control panel with display of position of hot product (% of scanning...

Descrip tion Operating principle The Rota-Sonde TS5500 is sensitive to infrared radiation and is optimized for detection even at low temperature and in the presence of steam. The sensor detects the first edge of the product within the scanned field, i.e. the first transition “no radiation / presence of radiation”, direction of scanning being from the top to the bottom of sensor. When the analytical beam of the sensor detects infrared radiation from the leading edge of a hot product within the scanned field, the reflection of that radiation by the mirrored drum onto the measuring cell provides...

Descrip tion Alignment In order to help the user to make an accurate alignment of the sensor, the Rota-Sonde TS5500 is equipped with some new features: Laser • Laser Line (-LL version): The high visibility green laser line shows the exact position of the detection field. This makes the alignment of the sensor in both directions easier. It helps also to see the limits of the detection area. • Laser Pointer (-LP version): a laser pointer gives the lateral position of the field of detection. Toggle joint The indication of the tilt angle is useful to position the sensor in a proper way in front of...
