They can detect magnetic objects through non-magnetic material or the magnetic field can be transmitted away from difficult environment by using magnetic conductors. They have been specially designed for heavy industries. The choice of magnets depends on detection distance and material type of the support. The detection distance will be longer for magnets fixed on steel. On steel, the fixing screws should be non-magnetic. If the magnets are mounted close one to the other, separated by less than 60 mm, the polarity of magnet should be alternately North-South then South-North.
