FUEL CELLS Delphi Solid Oxide Fuel Cell Auxiliary Power Unit The Delphi Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) is a high-efficiency electrochemical generator designed to provide up to 5 kW of environmentally friendly electrical power for a wide range of transportation and stationary applications. As a result of its fuel flexibility, the Delphi SOFC APU can be engineered to use many types of fuels that are currently available, including natural gas, diesel, bio-diesel, propane, gasoline, coalderived fuel and military logistics fuel. Since the fuel is converted directly to electricity without combustion, the Delphi SOFC APU operates at a higher efficiency than traditional internal combustion engines, while at the same time eliminating nearly all pollutants and noise. Delphi is working under the U.S. Department of Energy Solid State Energy Conversion Alliance (SECA) project to develop its SOFC for use in stationary power plants. Open the catalog to page 1Delphi Solid Oxide Fuel Cell Auxiliary Power Unit Performance Advantages In commercial vehicles, the Delphi Solid Oxide Fuel Cell could be used as an auxiliary power supply enabling a truck operator to shut down the primary engine during long vehicle stops, while maintaining access to reliable electrical power for cab accessories. Today, many truck operators leave their engines idling or use anti-idling devices such as diesel engine APUs to supply "hotel load power." Regulations against idling the main diesel engine and emissions from diesel APUs are driving the need for Delphi's SOFC APU....
