Product catalog summary
Application
The RMP-111D protective overload relay is part of DEIF's series for generator protection and control, suitable for both marine and land installations. It is type-approved by major classification societies and protects the prime mover from overload, especially when under-dimensioned relative to the AC generator.
Measuring Principle
The relay measures all three-phase currents and voltages using the TDM principle, ensuring accurate RMS power measurement regardless of waveform or asymmetry. It is available in 2W3 and 3W3(4) couplings for unbalanced loads. If power exceeds a set point, an output is activated, indicated by a yellow LED.
Timer Function
Upon exceeding the set point, a timer starts and runs as long as the fault persists. The timer resets if the fault disappears. When the timer expires, the contact activates, and a red LED lights up.
Relay Output
The RMP-111D features a maximum contact output, either normally energized or de-energized. Normally energized contacts are recommended for land-based installations, while normally de-energized contacts suit marine installations. A latch circuit can lock contacts in a warning position, reset by disconnecting the auxiliary supply.
Hysteresis
To prevent contact chatter, a 2% full-scale hysteresis is included. Contacts activate 200 ms after auxiliary voltage connection and maintain supervision for 200 ms post-disconnection.
Technical Specifications
Current measurement ranges from 0.3 to 5.0A AC, with overload capabilities up to 80 x In for 1 second. Voltage ranges from 57.7 to 450V AC, with overload up to 2 x Un for 10 seconds. The relay operates within a frequency range of 40 to 70Hz and supports a maximum contact rating of 250V AC/24V DC, 8A.
Environmental and Compliance
The relay operates between -25 to 70°C and complies with EMC standards EN 61000-6-1/2/3/4. It features galvanic separation and is protected to IP40 (case) and IP20 (terminals).
Settings and Indication
Overload set points range from 25 to 125% of Pn, with a yellow LED indicating set point exceedance. A time delay of 0 to 20 seconds can be set, after which the contact activates and a red LED lights up. A green LED indicates power ON.
Order Specifications
Orders should specify type, coupling, measuring power, voltage, relay type, and supply voltage. Example: RMP-111D – 3W4 – 0..100W – 3 x 63.5V AC NDL – 230V AC.

Overload relays – type RMP-111D-1

DEIF A/S Application The protective overload relay type RMP-111D forms part of a complete DEIF series of relays for protection and control of generators, and is applicable to both marine and land-based installations. Also available are reverse power relays (RMP-121D) and combined overload and reverse power relays (RMP-112D). The RMP-111D is type approved by major classification societies and is applied for protection of the prime mover against overload. This is especially required if the prime mover is underdimensioned in proportion to the AC generator. Measuring principle The relay measures all 3 phase currents and phase voltages. The TDM (Time-Division-Multiplication) principle ensures an accurate measurement of the RMS value of the power (3 x U x I x cos-), irrespective of wave form and asymmetry. The RMP-111D is available with the following couplings: 2W3 2 element 3 phase 3 wire, unbalanced load. 3W3(4) 3 element 3 phase 3 wire (4 wire), unbalanced load. If the power exceeds a set point, the output is activated. The set point value is set on the front of the relay by means of a potentiometer. If exceeded, a fault signal is generated, and the associated yellow LED is lit. Timer function When the set point is exceeded, the associated timer starts and will run as long as the fault condition prevails. The delay does not depend on the exceeding of the set point. If the fault disappears, the timer is reset. When the timer expires, the contact is activated and the associated red LED is lit. Relay output The RMP-111D is provided with an output with a maximum contact, either normally energised or normally de-energised. The contact may be set to open or to close on activation. Normally energised contact Recommended for land-based installations for warning and alarm purposes. In case of an auxiliary supply drop-out, the contact is immediately activated. Normally de-energised contact Recommended for marine installations for regulating and control purposes. An auxiliary supply failure will not result in an unwanted activation of the contact. Latch circuit The contacts can be locked in their warning position, even if the input power returns to normal (add “L” to contact type in order specifications, if this is required). The latch circuit is reset by disconnecting the auxiliary supply. Hysteresis In order to avoid “chatter” on the relay contacts the contact functions are provided with a hysteresis, i.e. a difference of 2% of full scale between energising and de-energising of the relay. Note: Normally energised contacts are not activated (contact does not open/close) until 200 ms after connection of the auxiliary voltage. Likewise, the RMP-111D is provided with a 200 ms power-down circuit, ensuring supervision and maintenance of any set point exceedings for 200 ms after disconnection of the auxiliary voltage. ANSI code 32 Overload relays Type RMP-111D uni-line 4921240108F • Protection of prime mover • 3 phase measurement • LED indication of alarm condition • Timer controlled tripping • LED indication for activated relay • 35 mm DIN rail or base mounting RMP-111D
