DSB SCREWS

DSB SCREWS

DSB SCREWS

Product catalog summary
Overview: The document discusses advancements in blown film extrusion technology, focusing on the DSB screw designs by Davis-Standard, LLC. These designs aim to deliver high specific outputs, excellent mixing, and low melt temperatures.
Key Features: The DSB screws are designed with enhanced versions of DSB II and III, catering to new applications in blown film. They incorporate various mixing devices such as maddock mixers, multiple mixers, and cavity transfer mixers (CTM) to achieve superior mixing results.
Mixing Technology: The document highlights two types of mixing phenomena: distributive and dispersive mixing. Distributive mixing ensures uniform temperature distribution and incorporation of minor phase components, while dispersive mixing uses shear stress to break down agglomerated components.
Barrier Technology: The DSB barrier screw features feed, barrier, and metering sections with a dispersive or distributive mixer. The barrier flight creates a physical barrier between the solid bed and the melt pool, enhancing the melting process's efficiency and stability.
General Purpose Applications: The DSB II design includes through-the-screw injection nozzles for color use, suitable for stretch film applications and N2 foaming injection. It is ideal for processing various materials like Nylon, PP, HD, PE, EVOH, and PET, offering excellent extrusion stability and a large melting area.
Specific Screw Designs:
  • DSB I Screw: Suitable for processing LDPE, EVA, POP, mLLD, and LLDPE blends, offering superior mixing of colors and additives.
  • DSB II Screw: Optimized for low melt index LLDPE, reducing energy consumption and achieving low melt temperatures.
  • DSB III Screw: Designed for foaming applications.

BARRIER TECHNOLOGY The DSB barrier screw typically consists of feed, barrier and metering sections with a dispersive or distributive mixer. This design introduces an additional flight over the transition section of the screw known as the barrier flight. This is advantageous because: ■ The barrier flight creates a physical barrier between the solid bed and the melt pool, so that the depth of each channel varies independently. ■ The barrier flight is undercut to allow molten material to pass from the solids channel (S/C) to the melt channel (M/C). ■ The melt channel becomes progressively wider...
