Product Description: Titan 7490 is a single-component, low-viscosity anaerobic threadlocking adhesive that develops medium to high strength. It cures in the absence of air between close-fitting metal parts and contains a fluorescent tracer dye for easy detection.
Typical Applications: Used to prevent loosening and leaking of threaded fasteners, suitable for preassembled components. Its low viscosity allows it to wick into threaded assemblies and fill porosity in welds and castings.
Physical Properties: The base compound is Dimethacrylate Ester, appearing as a blue liquid with a viscosity of 10 cP at 68°F and a specific gravity of 1.07. It has a gap fill of .003", is non-corrosive, has a flash point over 200°F, low toxicity, and a shelf life of 1 year when unopened at 40°F.
Military Specifications: Complies with Mil-S-46163A, Type III, Grade R.
Curing Properties: Cure rate depends on environmental conditions and substrates. Setting times vary by substrate: Steel (10 min/24 hrs), Brass (20 min/24 hrs), Zn Dichromate (55 min/24 hrs), Stainless Steel (60 min/24 hrs). Smaller gaps increase set speed, and activators can improve set speed but may impair performance.
Polymer (Cured): Exhibits high locking strength, appears as a green solid, and operates within a service temperature range of -60°F to 300°F. Full cure time is 24 hours with a shear strength of 2000 psi on steel nuts and bolts.
Performance of Cured Materials: Bond strength after 24 hours at 20° to 25°C on steel nuts and bolts shows breakaway torque of 100 in. lbs. (range 40-150 in. lbs.) and prevailing torque of 250 in. lbs. (range 150-330 in. lbs.).
Temperature Resistance: Retained strength is tested across various temperatures, maintaining significant strength up to 150°C.
Chemical Resistance: After 500 hours, the adhesive retains strength in various solvents: Motor Oil (90%), Unleaded Gasoline (85%), Tricloroethane (90%), Brake Fluid (90%), Ethanol (85%), Acetone (95%), Water/Glycol Mix (95%).
General Instructions: Surfaces should be clean, dry, and grease-free. Apply enough product to fill all engaged threads. Best performance is in thin bond gaps. Not recommended for pure oxygen environments or as a sealant for chlorine or strong oxidizing materials. Not suitable for plastics, especially thermoplastics.
Storage: Store unopened in a cool, dry place away from sunlight. Refrigeration can improve shelf life, but the product should be at room temperature before use.
