Product catalog summary
Product Description: Titan 7222 is a single-component anaerobic threadlocking adhesive that is thixotropic and develops low strength. It cures in the absence of air between close-fitting metal parts.
Typical Applications: Used to prevent loosening from vibration and leakage in threaded fasteners, suitable for applications requiring easy disassembly.
Physical Properties: The base compound is Dimethacrylate Ester, appearing as a purple liquid with a viscosity of 1200 cP at 68°F and a specific gravity of 1.09. It can fill gaps up to .007” and has a flash point over 200°F. The shelf life is 1 year when stored at 40°F unopened.
Military Specifications: Complies with Mil-S-46163A, Type II, Grade M.
Curing Properties: Cure rate depends on environmental conditions and substrates. Setting times vary by substrate, with full cure achieved in 24 hours.
Curing Performance: Smaller bond line gaps increase set speed. Activators can improve set speed but may impair adhesive performance.
Polymer (Cured): Exhibits low locking strength and appears as a purple solid. The service temperature range is -75°F to 300°F, with a full cure time of 24 hours and a shear strength of 600 psi on steel nuts and bolts.
Performance of Cured Materials: Bond strength after 24 hours at 20° to 25°C on steel nuts and bolts shows breakaway torque averaging 58 in. lbs. and prevailing torque averaging 30 in. lbs.
Temperature Resistance: Retained strength is tested at various temperatures, showing a decrease as temperature increases.
Chemical Resistance: Shear strength on steel after 500 hours shows high retention in various solvents, with the lowest being 80% in a water/glycol mix.
General Instructions: Surfaces should be clean, dry, and free of grease. The product should fill all engaged threads and performs best in thin bond gaps. Not recommended for pure oxygen environments or as a sealant for chlorine. Compatibility with substrates should be confirmed prior to use.
Storage: Store unopened in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight. Refrigeration can improve shelf life, but the product should be at room temperature before use.
