Revolutionary RF Ceramic Filter for Next Generation Communication

Product catalog summary
Introduction
The ClearPlex® Waveguide Ceramic Filter is a revolutionary RF ceramic filter designed to meet the growing demand for data, video, and voice transmission through wireless devices. As the demand is projected to increase tenfold by 2017, the need for efficient bandwidth and capacity management becomes critical.

Industry Challenge
The wireless industry is transitioning from macro-cell architecture to small-cell models to address spectrum congestion. Small-cells, while covering smaller areas, collectively enhance coverage and capacity.

Limitations of Air-Cavity Filters
Air-cavity filters, though effective for macro-cells, are unsuitable for small-cells due to their size, weight, and cost. A new solution is required to maintain performance while reducing space and cost.

ClearPlex® Solution
CTS’ ClearPlex® Waveguide Ceramic Filters provide a solution with low cost, small size, and superior electrical performance. Key features include:
  • Low insertion loss (< 2.5 dB)
  • Sharp rejection points (up to -80 dB)
  • Excellent Passive Intermodulation (PIM) levels (-110 dBm typical)

Features
  • Band Pass Filter for UMTS Bands 1, 2, 4, 7, and 25
  • Average Power: ~50 Watt at certain bands
  • Peak Power: Exceeds 500 Watt at certain bands
  • Fully sealed and humidity tolerant
  • High Q Factor: 30% greater than ceramic monoblock filters
  • Low Insertion Loss: < 1.5 dB
  • Sharp Rejection Points: Up to -80 dB
  • Excellent PIM Levels: -110 dBm typical

Size Specifications
The filters are available in various sizes, with the largest being 63.5 x 38.1 x 12.7mm and the smallest 25.4 x 12.7 x 3.175mm.

Revolutionary RF Ceramic Filter for Next Generation Communication-1

ClearPlex® Waveguide Ceramic Filter Revolutionary RF Ceramic Filter for Next Generation Communication Demand for information (data, video, and voice) through wireless devices such as smartphones, tablets, and mobile computers is projected to grow ten times by 2017. As demand for information increases, bandwidth and capacity are becoming more limited in an already congested spectrum. ClearPlex® Waveguide Ceramic Filter A Space Saver with Air-Cavity Performance The wireless industry is responding to this challenge by migrating from a macro-cell architecture, where a few high-power base stations serve a large geographical area, to a new model that uses many small-cells. While small-cells only cover a small area, when grouped together, they provide the necessary coverage and increase capacity at the same time. Air-cavity filters have been the prime choice for macro-cells topology for their superior overall performance and power handling. However, air-cavity filters are large, heavy, and expensive, which are not ideally suited for small-cell applications. Design engineers must find a solution that can maintain a high level of performance while offering other critical benefits such as space and cost savings. CTS’ ClearPlex® Waveguide Ceramic Filters offer that solution. ClearPlex® waveguide technology takes advantage of CTS‘ patented mechanical structures and proprietary high quality ceramic formulations. It offers a filtering solution that satisfies the market’s needs for low cost, small size, and superior electrical performance. Key attributes offered by ClearPlex® filter include low insertion loss of less than 2.5 dB, sharp rejection points reaching up to -80 dB, and Passive Intermodulation (PIM) levels average -110 dBm. FEATURES • Band Pass Filter UMTS Bands 1, 2, 4, 7, and 25 (Additional frequencies available upon request) • Average Power: ~ 50 Watt at certain bands • Peak Power: Exceeds 500 Watt at certain bands • Fully sealed, humidity tolerant • High Q Factor: 30% greater than a ceramic monoblock filter • Low Insertion Loss: < 1.5 dB • Sharp Rejection Points: Up to -80 dB • Excellent PIM Levels: -110 dBm typical PERFORMANCE SAMPLE: Band 7 TX and RX Filters
