Product catalog summary
Overview: The VA 521 is a compact inline flow sensor designed for measuring compressed air and other gases. It features modern digital interfaces for integration into energy monitoring systems and is suitable for various pipe sizes without requiring an inlet section due to its integrated flow straightener.
Specifications:
  • Display: Rotatable by 180°, shows present flow and total consumption, and measures temperature.
  • Installation: Easy installation with screw-in threads for pipe sizes ranging from 1/2" to 2".
  • Interfaces: Programmable via display, includes Modbus-RTU, 4...20 mA analogue output, and optional M-Bus, Ethernet, or PoE.
  • Flow Measuring Ranges: Maximum version measures up to 185 m/s for compressed air.
  • Material Options: Aluminium or Stainless Steel 316L.
  • Gas Types: Configurable for compressed air, nitrogen, argon, CO2, oxygen, and others.
  • Accuracy: ± 1.5% of measured value, ± 0.3% of full scale, with an option for higher accuracy.
  • Operating Conditions: Temperature range from -30 to 80 °C, pressure up to 16 bar (optionally 40 bar).
  • Outputs: RS 485 interface, optional M-Bus, Ethernet, or PoE, with 4...20 mA analogue output and pulse output for alarms.
  • Power Supply: 18…36 VDC, 5 W.
Advantages:
  • Compact design suitable for machine integration.
  • Freely programmable interfaces.
  • Integrated flow straightener eliminates the need for additional inlet sections.
  • Removable sensor unit for easy cleaning.
Order Information: The VA 521 can be customized with various options for measuring sections, thread types, material, calibration, gas type, measuring range, display, pressure measurement, signal connection, flow straightener, accuracy class, maximum pressure, surface condition, and approvals.

Flow VA 521 - Compact inline flow sensor for compressed air and other types of gas No inlet section necessary – integrated flow straightener – sensor unit removable The newly developed VA 521 combines modern digital interfaces for connection to energy monitoring systems with a small, compact design. The VA 521 is always used when many machines (compressed air consumers) are to be integrated into an energy monitoring network. Readout values in the display can be rotated by 180°, e.g. for overhead installation • Compact, small design - for use in machines, behind maintenance unit on the end user Display shows 2 values at the same time: • All interfaces are freely programmable via the display • Present flow in m³/h, l/min,... • Modbus-RTU output • Total consumption (counter reading) in m³, l, kg • 4...20 mA analogue output for present flow • Temperature measurement • Pulse output total flow (counter reading), electrically isolated. Optional: M-Bus, Ethernet interface or PoE Screw-in thread: Easy installation into the existing pipe due to integrated measuring section (suitable for 1/2", 3/4", 1", 1 1/4", 1 1/2" or 2" lines) Integrated flow straightener no inlet section necessary With a key stroke: • Reset counter reading • Select units • Parameterise interfaces Flow measuring ranges VA 521 (max version 185 m/s) for compressed air (ISO 1217: 1000 mbar, 20 °C) Measuring ranges for other types of gas see pages 114 to 117 Measuring section Measuring range full scales m³/h cfm The sensor can be removed from the measuring section and cleaned. 88
