Product catalog summary
Overview: The document provides detailed information on Pharmaceutical Grade PPD Capsule Filters, which utilize pleated polypropylene depth media for filtration. These filters are designed to remove 99.9% of contaminants at the rated pore size, protecting critical membrane filters downstream.
Construction Materials: The filters are constructed entirely from polypropylene, including the housing, media support, end caps, center core, and outer support cage. The sealing method used is thermal bonding.
Applications: PPD capsule filters are suitable for pre-filtration of bulk pharmaceutical chemicals, water, buffers, solvents, alcohols, and other liquids. They are also used in filling applications for SVPs, LVPs, diagnostics, ophthalmics, and biologicals.
Operating Parameters: The maximum liquid operational pressure is 80 psi at 20°C, and for gases, it is 60 psi at the same temperature. The operating temperature is 43°C at 30 psi in water. The recommended changeout pressure is 35 psid.
Pore Sizes and Flow Rates: The filters are available in various pore sizes ranging from 0.10 μm to 100 μm. The document provides a table with flow rates for each pore size, indicating the typical water flow at a one psi pressure differential.
Sanitization and Compliance: PPD capsules can be sanitized using autoclave or chemical sanitization methods. They comply with USP Biosafety and FDA regulations, ensuring non-toxicity and suitability for repeated food contact.
Quality Assurance: The manufacturing process adheres to ISO 9001:2008 standards, with real-time monitoring and data collection to ensure high-quality production and full traceability.
Ordering Information: The document provides a detailed guide on ordering PPD capsule filters, including specifications for micron rating, length, inlet, and outlet types.

PPD Capsule Filters Pleated Polypropylene Depth Media Applications Buffers and Other Media Diagnostics PPD capsules are made with polypropylene microfiber media. Designed with the optimal filtration area, the filters remove large amounts of particulate and other contaminants. PPD capsules protect critical membrane filters downstream by removing 99.9% of contaminants at the rated pore size. Specific applications for PPD capsule filters include pre-filtration of bulk pharmaceutical chemicals, water, buffers, solvents, alcohols and other liquids. PPD capsules also protect membrane filters in filling applications for SVPs, LVPs, diagnostics, ophthalmics, biologicals and other products. P rotect critical membrane filters downstream Wide range of high efficiency retention ratings H igh capacity for long life Polypropylene exhibits broad chemical compatibility, so it is particularly suited for the filtration of chemicals and solvents used in drug making processes. PPD capsule elements are integrity tested during manufacture and are flushed to assure cleanliness in critical process applications. Prefiltration of bulk chemicals, water, LVPs, SVPs, buffers, solvents PPD Capsule Filters - Filtration Area* Capsule Length Pleated Polypropylene Depth *Average – Filtration area varies with media thickness and porosity. Flow Rate / Filtration Area The following table represents typical water flow at a one psi (69 mbar) pressure differential across a single 2 inch capsule with 1.0 ft² (930 cm²) of media with 1/2” FNPT ports. The test fluid is water at ambient temperature. Higher pressure drops are acceptable, but as flows increase the pressure drop of the housing becomes more apparent. Integrity Test Information Each capsule assembly is integrity tested before release. Field duplication of these tests is not practical because of the absence of commercial portable testing equipment. The materials used to construct pharmaceutical grade PPD capsule filters are non-toxic and meet the requirements for the MEM Elution Cytotoxicity Test and the requirements for Biological Reactivity Tests in the current version of the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) for Class VI - 121 °C Plastics. In addition, the materials meet the requirements listed by the FDA as appropriate for use in articles...
