Product catalog summary
Construction Materials: The FGD Capsule Filters are constructed using polypropylene for the housing, media support, end caps, center core, and outer support cage. The filtration media is a composite of pleated fiberglass and polypropylene depth media, sealed using thermal bonding.
Applications: These filters are suitable for clarifying and pre-filtration applications in wine, soft drinks, beer, syrups, bottled water, and aseptically packaged liquids. They are effective in bioburden reduction and protecting downstream membrane filters.
Performance and Specifications: The filters are rated at 99% retention at the rated pore size, with high contaminant holding capacity. They operate at a maximum liquid pressure of 80 psi at 20°C and a maximum gas pressure of 60 psi at 20°C. The recommended changeout pressure is 35 psid.
Flow Rate and Filtration Area: The filtration area varies with capsule length, ranging from 1.0 ft² for a 2” capsule to 17.4 ft² for a 30” capsule. The flow rates are provided for various pore sizes, with higher pressure drops acceptable as flows increase.
Compliance and Quality Assurance: The filters comply with FDA and EC regulations for food contact materials. They are manufactured under ISO 9001:2008 standards, ensuring high quality and traceability. The manufacturing process is monitored in real-time for quality assurance.
Sanitization and Sterilization: The filters can be autoclaved at 250°F for 30 minutes and sanitized using industry-standard chemical concentrations. They are not suitable for steam use.
Ordering Information: The document provides detailed ordering codes based on length, micron rating, and inlet/outlet specifications, allowing customization for specific needs.

FGD Capsule Filters Pleated Fiberglass Depth Media Applications Wine Soft Drinks Bottled Water Aseptically Packaged Liquids C omposite media filter rated at 99% retention at pore size High contaminant holding capacity as well as excellent retention W ide range of retention ratings Protect downstream membrane filters Applications for FGD capsule filters are clarifying filtration of wine, beer and other fruit juice based products. Bioburden reduction in fermented products such as wine and beer can be done efficiently with the FGD capsules. When used in final filling applications, the filters protect the critical membrane filters downstream. Fiberglass depth media filter modules from each lot are integrity tested during production. Filters are rinsed to assure no manufacturing debris remains in the finished capsules. FGD Capsule Filters - Filtration Area* Capsule Length Pleated Fiberglass Depth *Average – Filtration area varies with media thickness and porosity. Flow Rate / Filtration Area The following table represents typical water flow at a one psi (69 mbar) pressure differential across a single 2 inch capsule with 1.0 ft² (930 cm²) of media with 1/2” FNPT ports. The test fluid is water at ambient temperature. Higher pressure drops are acceptable, but as flows increase the pressure drop of the housing becomes more apparent. Integrity Test Information Representative sample capsule elements are factory tested for integrity before shipment. Field duplication of these tests is not practical because of the absence of commercial portable testing equipment. All Critical Process Filtration capsule filters are designed to meet the FDA requirements for processing food and beverage products. The materials used to construct food & beverage grade filters are listed by the FDA as appropriate for use in articles intended for repeated food contact as specified in Title 21 CFR sections 174.5, 177.1500, 177.1520, 177.1630, 177.2440...
