Xenus RoHS PLUS CANopen

Product catalog summary
Overview: The document provides comprehensive technical specifications and operational guidelines for the Xenus Plus CANopen digital servo drive by Copley Controls, as well as the XPL-NK CAN Connector Kit. It covers the drive's capabilities, control modes, communication interfaces, feedback options, safety features, and network configurations.
Specifications: The Xenus Plus models (XPL-230-18, XPL-230-36, XPL-230-40) operate with a mains voltage of 100-240 Vac and offer peak currents of 18, 36, and 40 Adc respectively. They support various control modes, including Profile Position, Velocity, and Torque, and feature CANopen and RS-232 communication interfaces. The XPL-NK CAN Connector Kit includes an adapter for converting a D-Sub 9M connector to an RJ-45 Ethernet socket, a 10 ft cable, and a terminator, conforming to the CiA DR-303-1 specification.
Control and Communication: The drive supports CANopen DS-402 and RS-232 for communication, operating in distributed or stand-alone modes. Node addresses in a CANopen network range from 1 to 127, set using rotary switches. The RS-232 port supports full-duplex communication with baud rates from 9600 to 115,200.
Feedback and I/O: The drive supports incremental and absolute encoders, digital halls, and resolver feedback. It includes 15 digital inputs, 6 digital outputs, and several analog inputs and outputs. Command inputs include digital position, torque, and velocity formats, with a multi-mode encoder port for feedback signals.
Safety and Protection: The Safe Torque Off (STO) feature ensures safety by disabling the power stage when necessary. The drive includes protections against overvoltage, undervoltage, overtemperature, and short circuits. The STO function complies with IEC 61800-5-2 standards.
Mechanical and Environmental: The drive's dimensions are 7.9 x 5.5 x 2.3 inches, operating within a temperature range of 0 to +45°C. It complies with various EMC and safety standards, ensuring reliable operation in industrial environments.
Best Practices: Recommendations include ensuring proper grounding for CE compliance and using external regeneration resistors for energy dissipation. Grounding and shielding are critical for controlling radio frequency emissions.
Procedures: Installation procedures emphasize using shielded cables for CE compliance and proper grounding to prevent electrical hazards. A wire insertion/extraction tool is recommended for cable connections.
Standards and Compliance: CE compliance requires line filters and shielded cables. The document specifies the use of ferrite cores for shielded cables connected to the regen resistor.
Grounding and Safety: Grounding requirements emphasize connecting the safety ground terminal at the mains connector with a wire of the same gauge as the mains. This connection is crucial for carrying fault current to earth ground in case of a short-circuit.
Heatsink and Fan Configurations: Installation procedures for heatsinks involve using a dry-film interface pad. Various configurations are available, including no heatsink, low-profile heatsink, and standard heatsink, with or without fans.
Performance Charts: Charts illustrate the relationship between maximum ambient temperature and continuous output current for different Xenus Plus models, showing how heatsink and fan combinations affect operating temperature range.
Ordering Guide: An ordering guide details model numbers, current ratings, and optional features like resolver options. It lists available accessories, including connector kits, software CDs, serial cable kits, and heatsink kits.
Accessories and Installation Notes: Additional accessories such as regeneration resistors and edge filters are mentioned, with specific part numbers and configurations. An example order illustrates how to specify a drive with a factory-fitted heatsink and other accessories.

Xenus PLUS XPL CANopen RoHS CANOPEN Based on the CAN V2.0b physical layer, a robust, two-wire communication bus originally designed for automotive use where low-cost and noise-immunity are essential, CANopen adds support for motion-control devices and command synchronization. The result is a highly effective combination of data-rate and low cost for multi-axis motion control systems. Device synchronization enables multiple axes to coordinate moves as if they were driven from a single control card. CANOPEN COMMUNICATION Xenus uses the CAN physical layer signals CAN_H, CAN_L, and CAN_GND for connection,...

Xenus PLUS XPL CANopen RoHS SAFE TORQUE OFF (STO) DESCRIPTION The XPL has a safety feature that is designed to provide the Safe Torque Off (STO) function as defined in IEC 61800-5-2. Two opto-couplers are provided which, when de-energized, prevent the upper and lower devices in the PWM outputs from being operated by the digital control core. This provides a positive OFF capability that cannot be overridden by the control firmware, or associated hardware components. When the opto-couplers are activated (current is flowing in the input diodes), the control core will be able to control the on/off...
