How does it work? In a typical production facility, fibers must be stripped of their jacket to give a continuous, perfectly clean reliable cladding surface. First the operator mechanically removes all coatings from the fiber, up to and including the primary jacket. This process usually results in debris remaining on the cladding surface. Until now, removing this debris has been a cumbersome, tedious, and rather unreliable process of manually rubbing the fiber with cotton and alcohol.
