BASgateway new product INTRODUCTION BASgateway — Modbus to BACnet® Gateway Modbus devices remain popular in boiler control, variable speed drives, and energy metering applications but these devices lack BACnet compliance. The BASgateway connects BACnet/IP Ethernet to non-BACnet compliant networks such as Modbus Serial or Modbus TCP allowing up to 30 Modbus devices to appear individually as BACnet devices. It has a 10/100 Mbps Ethernet port for BACnet/IP and Modbus TCP connections, and an opto-isolated Modbus EIA-485 serial port for Modbus RTU or Modbus ASCII devices. Using web pages and a resident database of common Modbus device profiles, Modbus registers from either Modbus TCP or Modbus Serial devices can be mapped to BACnet objects. Cooperating with Modbus device manufacturers, Contemporary Controls has developed a library of Modbus device profiles that reside within the BASgateway — thereby removing a significant burden from the system integrator commissioning the system. New Product Introduction — BASgateway Modbus Serial to BACnet/IP Application For Modbus Serial applications, it is recommended that the BASgateway reside at one end of the EIA-485 network with the BASgateway internal bias and termination jumpers installed. The far-end of the EIA-485 network should have, at a minimum, a 120 Ω termination resistor. For 3-wire EIA485 networks, make connections to D+, D- and SC.
