Introduction
Consarc Corporation, part of the Inductotherm Group, has introduced a new range of Vacuum Cap (VCAP) induction melting furnaces. These are designed for processing ferrous and non-ferrous metals under vacuum conditions, leveraging over 40 years of experience in vacuum induction melting technology.

Specifications and Design
The VCAP furnaces are designed for induction melting in air or vacuum, with a final degassing stage under vacuum. The system includes a fully sealed furnace shell, a water-cooled vacuum lid, and a multi-stage mechanical vacuum pumping system. The induction melting coil is powered by an Inductotherm VIP Power supply, optimized for fast melt rates and metallurgical quality.

Applications and Materials
VCAP furnaces are suitable for a wide range of applications, processing materials such as low and high carbon steels, tool and die steels, stainless steels, nickel-based alloys, cobalt-based alloys, and non-ferrous alloys. They are available in sizes from 80 kg to 20 tonnes.

Metallurgical Considerations
Processes that can be performed include air melting, controlled atmosphere melting, alloy homogenization, vacuum degassing, reduction of tramp elements, deoxidation, decarburization, desulphurization, and argon purging. These processes improve mechanical properties, technological characteristics, and microcleanliness of the metals.

Design Flexibility
The VCAP range offers a flexible and cost-effective approach with options to suit various customer needs. Standard features include an induction furnace, vacuum shell, water-cooled vacuum lid, vacuum pumping system, hydraulic tilt system, and control systems. Optional accessories include inert gas purging, automated vacuum lid handling, optical pyrometer, and SCADA control systems.
