Product catalog summary
Introduction to Water Gauges: Water gauges are devices used to visually inspect liquid levels in vessels, crucial for steam boilers as per ASME Boiler and Pressure Code, and applicable in oil tanks.
Selection Criteria: Consider temperature/pressure requirements and service media when selecting a water gauge. Pressure ratings depend on valve body, gauge glass, and gasket limitations. Safety features like guard rods and tubular gauge glass protectors are recommended, along with automatic ball checks to minimize risks.
Corrosion Considerations: Corrosion can lead to leakage and glass breakage. Ensure material compatibility with the service medium and consider stainless steel for high temperatures and pressures. Regular maintenance and proper water treatment can mitigate corrosion effects.
Selection Process: Choose valve series based on application needs, including handle type and location. Consider automatic or ASME automatic ball checks for safety. Select handwheel style, gauge glass size, type, and length based on visibility and pressure requirements. Use appropriate packing materials like EPDM, Viton®, Hypalon®, Teflon®, or Graphite based on chemical resistance and temperature needs.
Installation and Maintenance: Installation should be performed by trained personnel. Use Teflon® tape or pipe dope on threads, and ensure proper alignment of fittings. Regular inspection and cleaning with non-abrasive cleaners are crucial. Replace glass if damaged or cloudy.
Do's and Don'ts: Avoid using damaged glass or exceeding pressure limits. Install protective guards and inspect gauges daily. Prevent sudden temperature changes and ensure proper installation to avoid metal contact.
Conbraco Water Gauges: Various series are available, including standard, heavy pattern, and automatic options, each suited for different applications and pressure requirements.
Specifications: Detailed specifications and dimensions for water gauges and liquid level gauges are provided, including models, measurements, ratings, and materials used.
Ratings: Gauges are rated for different pressure and temperature conditions, such as 125 psig at 350°F and 300 psig at 100°F, with higher ratings available for other models.
Materials: Materials include EPDM rubber for glass seals and Teflon® for stem packing, with handles made from aluminum or composite materials.
Key Dimensions: A comprehensive table of dimensions for various models is included, detailing measurements crucial for selecting the appropriate gauge.
Suffix Key: A suffix key is provided to identify standard sets and special configurations.
Product Categories: Includes standard glass and water gauges, available in rough and polished bronze, with extended shank options.
Key Features: Some models are automatic, adhering to ASME standards, and use high-quality trademarked materials like Teflon® and Hypalon®.
Performance and Limitations: Limitations are based on the gauge glass used, affecting pressure and temperature ratings.
Conclusion: The document serves as a guide for selecting valves or gauges based on size, material, and pressure rating, emphasizing high-quality materials and industry standards adherence.
Specifications: Valve bodies are made from brass bar stock and are automatic. Detailed specifications for water gauges and liquid level gauges are included, with gauge glass service ratings and pressure-temperature ratings.
Gauge Glass Service Ratings: A table of gauge glass service ratings is provided, detailing maximum recommended working pressure and temperature for different sizes and types.
Tubular Gauge Glass Protector: Describes the protector that reduces injury and damage risk from broken glass, available in various lengths.
Water Gauge Repair Kits: Standard repair kits include various packing materials and washers, with options for oil-related services and severe applications.
Repair Kit Ordering Information: A matrix for ordering repair kits based on type and number is provided, along with a chart of applications for various models.
Repair Kit Selection Instructions: Instructions for selecting the appropriate repair kit based on model number, glass O.D., type, handle type, and service media are provided.
Water Gauge & Gauge Glass Repair Kit Instructions: Detailed instructions for installation, maintenance, and repair are provided, emphasizing safety precautions.
Glossary: A glossary of terms related to water gauges is included.
Components and Materials: Describes components like seat washers, stem packing, and materials like Teflon® and Viton®.
Warranty and Liability: Conbraco Industries offers a two-year warranty, ensuring products are free from defects, with liability limited to the price of goods.

Water Gauges and Liquid Level Gauges WHAT IS A WATER GAUGE? A water gauge is a device that allows the liquid level in a vessel to be visually inspected. Water gauges are required by the ASME Boiler and Pressure Code on steam boilers, and are also useful in many other applications, such as monitoring the amount of oil in an oil tank. THINGS TO REMEMBER Care must be given to ensure the proper selection of a water gauge. Special attention must be given to temperature/pressure requirements and to the service media (i.e. water, steam, oils, chemical agents, etc.). Some items to keep in mind: • PRESSURE...

Water Gauges and Liquid Level Gauges 2. Select Non-Automatic, Automatic, or ASME Automatic: • use automatic (horizontally seating) or ASME automatic (vertically rising to seat in lower valve body) ball checks where available to minimize the risk of personal injury and/or property damage in the event of gauge glass breakage. The sudden rush of steam and water seats the balls, thereby shutting off the escape of steam and water. There will however be slight leakage as required by certain codes. 3. Select a handwheel style: • use aluminum handwheels for durability. • use plastic (composition) handwheels...
