Product catalog summary
Technical Specifications
The document outlines the specifications for a channel type penstock, focusing on tightness achieved on three sides using materials like EPDM for water applications. Different types are fabricated based on dimensions.

1. Description of Components
  • Board: Made of a plate welded to a solid frame, designed to withstand maximum water pressure and transmit it to the guides.
  • Guides: Constructed from laminated profiles, they ensure proper sealing and easy mounting.
  • Sealing System: Utilizes rubber profiles, typically EPDM, with stainless steel components to ensure tightness.
  • Bridge of Mechanism: A metallic structure supporting the actuator mechanism, removable and assembled with gussets and screws.
  • Lifting Mechanism: Operated manually or with electric, pneumatic, or hydraulic actuators, using a direct draught box for spindle housing.

2. Necessary Clearances
Clearances are defined based on the width (A) and height (B) of the penstock. It is crucial to check frame deformations and use a wooden piece to maintain dimensions during concreting.

3. Operation and Maintenance
  • Handwheel Operation: Turn counterclockwise to open the valve.
  • Maintenance: Regular greasing every 90 days for the driving nut and bearings, using lithium-based grease.

4. Feeding and Maintenance for Pneumatic Systems
  • Ensure clean, dry air supply at 5-7 kg/cm pressure, with temperature not exceeding 70°C unless using special materials.
  • Proper alignment of stems with wall guides is essential to avoid operational issues.

5. General Maintenance
  • Follow installation instructions to minimize maintenance, focusing on replacing sealing joints and slides as needed.
  • For carbon steel penstocks, renew external coating if required.

6. Replacement Procedures
  • Sealing Joints: Remove and clean old joints, cut and glue new profiles, and secure them with sheet billets.
  • Slides: Replace slides made of RCH1000 or Brass every two to three seat replacements, depending on usage and water chemistry.

CA Series - Channel gate valve-1

Penstock for open channel. Tightness 3 sides ( at bottom and on the two sides). This tightness is reached by profiles of different materials, EPDM is mainly used for water. This serie of channel penstock is fabricated in different types depending on the dimensions. > Metallic penstocks composed by the following elements: a) Board b) Guides c) Sealing system d) Bridge of mechanism e) Lifting mechanism a) Board The board is composed by a plate electrowelded to a solid frame of laminated profiles. This unit will hold the maximum pressure of the water indicated by design and will transmit this pressure to the guides inserted in the civil work. It is fabricated in several materials and shapes depending on the application. b) Guides The guides are made, as the board, of laminated profiles in several materials. They transmit the effort of the board and at the mean time they operate as sealing against the joint of the board. These guides constitute an easy mounting unit and they assure the perfect working of the penstock. c) Sealing system The sealing system type depends each time on the special penstock. It is made of rubber profile, normally EPDM.The tightness is reached by profiles screwed to the board with stainless steel sheet billet and stainless steel screws. These indicated profiles slide along the flat surface. This surface has an angle fixed by a welding to the guide of the penstock to reduce the friction and avoid the possible defects of the wall. The slides may be made of nylon depending on the size and type of penstock. d) Bridge of mechanism The bridge of mechanism is composed by a metallic structure that supports the actuator mechanism in charge of the lifting of the penstock board. It is made of laminated profiles, stiffener sockets, supporting plates for the mechanism, gussets and other accessories. It is assembled at the upper side of the guides by some gussets and screws so it becomes removable. C.M.O. DOC. CA.11/08 e) Lifting mechanism The lifting of the board will be made following the specific indications of each penstock. This can be hand operated by handwheel, gear or by electric mechanism with motor supplied by the customer or by CMO. Pneumatic or hydraulic actuator are possible too. The lifting of the board is achieved using a box of direct draught with the inside screwed for the housing of the spindle. > C.M.O. The handwheel has to be turned oposite to clockwise to open the valve. This is indicated on the handwheel by the word OPENӔ. MAINTENANCE This driver is very simple, therefore the only maintenance is: 1- Grease regularly, for example every 90 days, the driving nut, by the greaser installed for this purpose on the bridge, under the handwheel. 2- Fill in the protection hood of the spindle half of its volume. For any of the above works use any grease with a lithium base. C.M.O. DOC. CA.11/08 1. FEEDING 1. The fidding air of the pneumatic cylinders has to be clean and dry.If it is lubricated, it will make easier the working oF the cylinder and will make longer the life of the joints. 2. The feeding air pressure will be between 5 and 7 kg/cm. 3. The temperature of the air shouldnt be higher than 70ҺC with the standard joints. For temperatures up to 150C the joints have to be of viton and the guides of brass. 4. At mounting on site special care must be taken when lining the extended stems with the wall guides. The wrong lining of these guides will create working problems,...

DOC. CA.11/08 GENERAL MAINTENANCE If the indicated installation instructions have been followed these penstocks have no other maintenance than the replacement of the sealing joints and the slides, if they are of stainless steel construction. On the carbon steel penstocks other than the sealing joints and slides the external coating has to be renewed, if the installation requests it or allows it. 1.2 REPLACEMENT OF THE SEALING JOINTS 1.2.1 Take out the gate from its guide or frame. 1.2.2 Remove the used joint, cleaning the sealing surfaces of the gate and frame. 1.2.3 Cut the exact length of the...
