Product catalog summary
Overview: The Jamarat Bridge is a pedestrian bridge located in Mina, Saudi Arabia, near Mecca. It is used by Muslims during the Hajj for the 'stoning of the devil' ritual. Originally constructed in 1963, the bridge has undergone expansions to accommodate the large number of pilgrims.
Purpose: The bridge facilitates the ritual by allowing pilgrims to throw stones at the three jamrah pillars from either the ground or the bridge. The pillars extend through openings in the bridge, enabling stones to fall to the ground below.
Capacity and Usage: At peak times, over a million people may gather around the bridge. Initially, the bridge had a single tier, but after the 2006 Hajj, construction began on a multi-level structure to better manage the crowds.
Construction Details: The expansion project involved the use of 16 Cantilever Lifting Devices (CLDs), each with a 70-ton capacity, to lift and position bridge elements. Additionally, four gantry cranes were supplied for the prefabrication yards. Two cranes have an 80-ton capacity with a 32-meter span, while the other two have a 40-ton capacity with a 20-meter span. All cranes have a travel under hook of 14 meters.
