C-GRID: C50-2.36x4.0

Product catalog summary
Description: The document is a technical data sheet for C-GRID® C50 – 2.36 x 4.0, a high-strength carbon fiber/epoxy grid used for reinforcing concrete structures. It highlights the alignment of large carbon strands in both longitudinal and transverse directions.
Typical Mechanical Properties: The sheet provides detailed mechanical properties for both longitudinal and transverse directions, including strand cross-sectional area, tensile strength, tensile modulus of elasticity, and elongation at break. For example, the longitudinal tensile strength per unit width is 4,220 lbs/ft (61.59 kN/m) with a tensile modulus of 34,000 ksi (234,500 MPa).
Physical Properties: The grid is composed of carbon fiber and epoxy resin, is black in color, and has a grid geometry of 2.36” x 4.0” (60 mm x 102 mm). It is supplied in rolls of 95” x 500 yd (2.4 m x 457 m).
Features: Key features include non-corrosiveness, lightweight, high tensile strength, and excellent mechanical bonding with concrete. It requires minimal concrete cover, leading to lighter structures.
Applications: The grid is suitable for various applications such as slabs-on-grade, marine structures, silos, concrete repair, balconies, and precast concrete panels.
Application Use Note: C-GRID® is a novel material with limited performance history compared to traditional materials. Structures using C-GRID® should be designed with appropriate safety factors and reviewed by experienced engineers.
Additional Notes: The document includes notes on strand spacing, directionality of strands, and the normalization of strand cross-sectional area. It emphasizes that reported properties are average values and subject to change.

Technical Data Sheet Carbon Fiber Reinforcing Grids for Concrete Structures DESCRIPTION C-GRID® C50 – 2.36 x 4.0 is one of the C50 Series of high strength carbon fiber/epoxy grids for reinforcing concrete structures. Large high strength carbon strands are aligned in both longitudinal and transverse directions. Non-corrosive; can be used with as little as 1⁄4” (6 mm) of cover Requires less concrete cover leading to lighter structures Marine structures Thin topping slabs and overlays Lightweight, easy to handle and use; can be cut to fit using conventional tin snips Silos and concrete storage tanks High tensile strength and modulus Outstanding mechanical bond with concrete; requires a mimimum 1⁄4” (6 mm) to develop its strength Precast concrete, including architectural and wall panels Concrete repair and shotcrete PHYSICAL PROPERTIES carbon fiber and epoxy resin Grid geometry (longitudinal x transverse spacing) Supply form (custom widths and lengths also available) TYPICAL MECHANICAL PROPERTIES TRANSVERSE PROPERTIES Average number of strands per unit width Area of strands per unit width Grid tensile strength per unit width Tensile modulus of elasticity Individual strand cross-sectional area Strand tensile strength Application Use Note: C-GRID® remains a relatively novel material without the extensive performance history of traditional construction materials. Reported properties are average values, not design values. Structures and applications using C-GRID® should be designed using appropriate safety factors or load and strength reduction factors. All applications utilizing C-GRID®, including critical life safety and fire rated structures, should be designed and reviewed by a licensed engineer experienced with FRP materials. The data expressed herein is believed to be accurate at the time of publication; however, it is subject to change without notice. 1. 2. 3. 4. Notes: Centerline-to-centerline spacing between strands is nominal and based on the average number of strands per unit width. Actual spacing may vary by ± 0.10” (± 2.5mm). The longitudinal direction is in the direction of the roll, and the transverse direction is across the width of the roll. For example, if a roll of C-GRID® is 47.5” wide, the carbon strands in the transverse direction are 47.5” in length. If a roll of C-GRID® is 500 yards long, the longitudinal strands are 500 yards in length. Individual strand cross-sectional area is normalized to the cross-sectional area of the fibers in accordance with ACI 440.2R. The actual measured thickness and width are larger and shall not be used for design purposes. Reported tensile strengths are typical or average properties based on testing. Tensile modulus values are based on properties reported by the carbon fiber supplier. C-GRID® exhibits linear elastic behavior, so failure strains are estimated using Hooke’s Law.
