Rubalit® HSS ? High Strength Substrate

Rubalit® HSS ? High Strength Substrate

Product catalog summary
Introduction
Rubalit® HSS is a high-strength ceramic substrate developed by CeramTec, known for its combination of elasticity and strength. Its ultrafine microstructure ensures exceptional surface quality, making it suitable for applications requiring high integration and power density due to component miniaturization. The substrate's thermal shock resistance and thermal conductivity make it ideal for advanced processes in various industries, including automotive, power supply, sensors, telecom, medical, and aerospace.
Material Properties
Rubalit® HSS is composed of 75% Al2O3 and has a cream color. Key properties include a medium grain size of 2 µm, surface roughness of 0.22 µm, and a bulk density of 4350 kg/m³. It has zero water absorption capacity and exhibits high bending strength, with values of 700 MPa using the 3-point method and 800 MPa using the double-ring method. The modulus of elasticity is 335 GPa, and thermal conductivity at 20°C is 22 W/m x °K. The specific heat at 20°C is 690 J/kg x °K, and the coefficient of linear expansion varies from 8.2 to 9.5 ppm/K across different temperature ranges.
Electrical Properties
The dielectric constant is 12.5 at 1 MHz and 9.0 at 1 GHz. The breakdown voltage for a 0.25 mm substrate thickness is greater than 25 KV/mm. Volume resistivity is 1010 Ohm x cm at 20°C, decreasing to 105 Ohm x cm at 600°C.
Standard Formats and Dimensions
Rubalit® HSS is available in standard formats up to 127 x 165 mm, with thicknesses ranging from 200 to 400 µm. Other dimensions are available upon request.
Performance Comparison
Rubalit® HSS demonstrates superior bending strength compared to other substrates like Rubalit® 708 S and 710, as well as AIN, with a notable 50% increase in both bending strength and surface quality over conventional substrates.
Compliance and Contact Information
Rubalit® HSS is RoHS compliant. For more information, contact CeramTec GmbH, Electronic Applications Division, located in Marktredwitz, Germany.
