Introduction
The CENTAMAX® torsionally highly elastic couplings, introduced in 1980, are designed for drives subject to torsional vibration, such as diesel engine drives, to prevent dangerous resonances across a wide speed range.

Specifications
CENTAMAX couplings are highly torsionally elastic, with a torsional deflection of about 12° at nominal torque and 30° at maximum torque for type SB. Larger types SC and SD have a deflection of 6-8° at rated torque. They accommodate misalignments with permissible angular and radial misalignments of 0.5 degrees and 0.5 mm at 1500 rpm.

Applications
These couplings are used in splitter gears with hydraulic pumps, compressors, ship propulsion, generator sets, pumping sets, and locomotives.

Design
The design includes a rubber disc with molded teeth engaged into an internally toothed aluminum ring, driven by a flywheel. The rubber disc is vulcanized to an inner driven hub for equal stress distribution.

Classification
CENTAMAX couplings meet classification society requirements and have general type approval from many societies.

Design Sizes
Available in 15 sizes for torque from 100 to 48000 Nm, suitable for engines from small single-cylinder to large multi-cylinder engines.

Materials
- Inner Hub: Steel with minimum tensile strength of 600 N/mm²
- Outer Ring: High-grade cast aluminum alloy
- Flexible Disc: High-quality natural rubber or silicon elastomer for high temperatures

Dimensions
The outer driving ring mounts directly to flywheels machined to SAE standard J 620. The couplings are compact and customizable.

Hub Design
Type SB features a two-piece inner hub with a friction connection, while Type SC uses a pot-shaped flange vulcanized into the rubber element.

Procedures
Alignment should be checked using a dial indicator, with specific reference surfaces for different setups. For engines on flexible mounts, alignment should be checked after two days to allow for settling.

Ventilation
Adequate ventilation is recommended to reduce temperature and extend the life of the coupling.

Special Types
Special types include failsafe features for ship propulsion and designs for deep flywheels, with various series and torque capacities.
