Data Sheet Precision Load Cells Series 85040 and 85070

Product catalog summary
Overview: The document details the Precision Load Cells Series 85040 and 85070, designed for measuring compressive and tensile forces with high precision and durability. These load cells are suitable for both static and dynamic stresses.
Applications: These load cells are ideal for industrial applications such as insertion force measurement, weight measurement (e.g., silos, skips), tensile force measurement (e.g., tension in cables, chains), and materials testing. They are particularly effective in environments requiring high precision and resistance to lateral forces.
Specifications:
  • Measuring ranges from 0 ... 20 N to 0 ... 2 MN.
  • High linearity of ± 0.1% F.S.
  • Low sensitivity to lateral forces.
  • Optional IP68 protection for harsh environments.
  • Extended temperature compensation range from -55 °C to 120 °C.
Design and Construction: The load cells feature a force-sensitive diaphragm with strain gauges, supported by additional diaphragms to minimize lateral force sensitivity. Models 85041/85075 are calibrated for tensile direction, with a nominal variance of ± 0.25% for compression.
Performance: The 8507X series is designed for high dynamic stress, capable of enduring over 109 load cycles, with operational force up to 200% of the nominal range.
Technical Data:
  • Bridge resistance: 350 Ω.
  • Calibration resistor: 59 kΩ ± 0.1%.
  • Excitation voltage: 10 V DC/AC recommended, 15 V max.
  • Non-linearity and hysteresis generally under ± 0.2% F.S.
  • Material: Stainless steel 17-4 PH, with some models using coated steel 4340.
Installation and Use: Detailed dimensions and installation instructions are provided, emphasizing the use of bolts with a strength class of at least 10.9. The preferred force application direction is tension, with a positive output signal for tensile forces.
Accessories and Options: Various connectors and cables are available, including mating connectors and load centering plates. Signal processing can be enhanced with digital indicators and amplifiers.
Conclusion: The Precision Load Cells Series 85040 and 85070 provide robust solutions for precise force measurement in demanding environments, with extensive customization options.
Calibration Tool Overview: The document also discusses a calibration tool, particularly when combined with the TRANS CAL 7281, for mobile calibration and adjustment of force-application equipment.
Options:
  • Hermetically Closed Version: IP68 rated, with a waterproof cable connection usable up to 80°C, not combinable with the extended temperature range.
  • Extended Temperature Range: Nominal temperature range extendable to -55°C to 120°C, not combinable with the IP68 version.
  • Factory Calibration Certificate (WKS): Calibration can be performed separately or with an indicator, covering the entire measuring range with special calibrations available upon request.
Additional Components: Includes a load centering plate, model 85041-Z00X.

Data Sheet Precision Load Cells Series 85040 and 85070-1

Series 85040 and 85070 for compressive load, for tensile and compressive forces For static and dynamic forces High linearity from ± 0.1 % F.S. Very low sensitivity to lateral forces Models 85073 / 85075 suitable for extremely high dynamic stress, series 85070 up to 109 load cycles Extended temperature compensation range -55 °C to 120 °C (optional) Measuring ranges from 0 ... 20 N to 0 ... 2 MN Protection class IP68 (optional) These load cells feature an outstanding ability to withstand static and dynamic stress and have exceptional precision and service life. These products have a huge range of applications in industry, R+D and testing thanks to the optional IP68 degree of protection and low sensitivity to lateral forces. The force-sensitive diaphragm with fitted strain gauges is located between the central part, where the force is applied (force application), and the outer ring (containing fixing holes). Examples of applications would be the measurement of: ►► ►► ►► ►► Insertion forces Reference measurement Weights (e.g. silos, skips) Tensile forces (tension in cables, chains etc. with load centering plate) ►► Materials testing For the compressive force sensors (models 85043 and 85073) the force must be applied through a plane plate, hard enough for the range of forces being measured, or a piston. Technical changes reserved. All data sheets at www.burster.com Two support diaphragms are additionally fitted, above and below the actual measuring element, to desensitize the sensors to extraneous lateral forces or moments. (see „Permitted external forces“ on page 2). Models 85041/85075 (tension/compression) are calibrated in the tensile direction. The characteristic figure for the compression direction can nominally vary by ± 0.25 % from the figure for the tensile direction. The output signal is positive when the applied force is tensile. The 8507X series (models 85073 and 85075) is designed for the highest possible dynamic stress and service life. This is > 109 cycles from zero up to the full value of the measuring range in the tensile or compressive direction and tolerates a maximum operational force of up to 200 % of the nominal range. burster praezisionsmesstechnik gmbh & co kg Germany Talstr. 1-5 .
